A hotel that doesn’t stand still. A hotel that glows and catches the light through fluorescence, pretending to be a gemstone, not a hotel. Оne of the first impressions that stays with you at MGallery Gem Forest in Nairobi.
Set within an urban forest and named after the Maasai phrase for “cool water”, the hotel carries this idea throughout its interiors.

The name refers to a river that still flows through the city today - a connection to the landscape and history of the place.
For MGallery Gem Forest, S+S translated Nairobi’s geography and heritage into an interior narrative, making “cool water” the conceptual thread running through the design.

Glass bends light rather than simply reflecting it. A skylit atrium is filled with water and banana trees. Bathroom glass shifts in colour as the hours pass.

Created to be felt. By S+S.

A rural village, reimagined as a restaurant in the middle of London.

That was our starting point.

Charred timber, hand-woven ceilings, carved wood, terracotta. Raw textures, warm light and nothing too polished.

The craft is everywhere, but never asks for attention.

A little rough. A little unexpected. Very S+S.

At S+S, context is not a moodboard.

The Emporium Plovdiv sits in one of Europe’s oldest cities, so borrowing a few historical references was never going to be enough.

We kept what was real. Worked with what was local. And designed the lobby around something Plovdiv has been doing for centuries: bringing people together.

Library. Bar. Stage. Hotel.

And, importantly, part of the city.

S+S designed Leo. It was named Best Interior of 2025.

The room is built around its art, not the other way round.

Sculptures stand between the tables like guests who arrived early. A figure watching the window. A small blue one balancing on a sphere. Gold wire bent into a body. Some of them move.

None of it is arranged like a gallery. The pieces sit the way they sit in a
home that was collected over years, not decorated in a season - one at a time, no theme, no plan.

After dark the lighting picks them out one by one, and the hall turns into a
private collection with tables in it.

Someone drew on the walls. A thin line crosses the room, turns, and keeps going behind the bed. The rug repeats it. By the headboard it rises into a column of lit beads. Then it stops being a line at all: a deep blue circle, glowing at the edge.

Everything else is white, so the blue has somewhere to land.

We designed Swissôtel Tbilisi around four principles: Intelligent Design, Urban Retreat, Synergy, and Mindful Spaces.

The lobby is an urban escape - lush greenery and raw, organic materials: wood, bamboo, cork, leather.

The rooms stay calm and neutral, with folk motifs and a single green accent carrying nature inside.

The Vitality Rooms hide a Wellbeing Wall - a private space to move, breathe, reset.

And on the rooftop, brass, wood and marble meet the whole city at your feet.

Marseille has always understood the value of a good view.
We simply refused to interrupt it.
Marble. Velvet. Quiet curves. Glass that lets the sea do the talking.
Everything else is just framing.

Half of this room is light you can’t switch off. Raw crystal overhead catches the lamps and hands them straight back to the wall as shadow — the trick a cave plays with a fire. Everything beneath it stays hushed: plaster bent into curves, a warm line of light tracing the bend, dark marble cool to the touch.

The spa was never the treatment. It’s the walk in — the moment the shoulders drop before anyone has touched them.

Lighting the stone was the easy part. Slowing people down took longer.

This September we’re on stage at Maison&Objet in Paris.

The Accor Design Awards turn ten. Ten years of handing young designers the thing the industry almost never gives them early: a real brief, a real client, and someone who says yes.

We know what that’s worth, because nobody handed it to us. Over twenty years ago we started with private interiors - one person, one home. Then bars and restaurants, where the emotion has to land in a single evening. Then hotels, where it has to hold for a thousand guests at once.

So at The Talks we’re not going to talk about how a hotel should look. We’ll talk about what happens after you win: who mentors you, who takes the risk on you, and how a first project becomes a career.

If you’re a student, a young designer, or the person who decides whether to hire one - come.

A wall kept the way the cliff left it - every ridge, still the ochre it came in. Beside it, a black slab polished to a mirror, angled to hand that ochre face back. The whole job is the seam. The line where machined edge gives way to raw ridge.

Turns out the straight line was the hard part.
