Title: “Love on the Island of Sazan”

Story:
For this painting, I was inspired by a legend from the Island of Sazan in the city of Vlora, Albania. The legend tells of a young woman who fell in love with a poor sailor. Her family decided to marry her to another man, so she escaped to the Island of Sazan to be with the one she truly loved. However, her family followed them there and killed them both. It is said that whenever it rains on the island, those are the tears of the young woman mourning her lost love.

That is why, in this painting, I transformed the Island of Sazan into a hat, while the sailor appears inside a coffee cup. In Albanian culture, coffee is often shared when someone passes away, symbolizing mourning, memory, and farewell.

"Joy and Sorrow"

The blue and red butterflies symbolize feminine and masculine energies, but also the eternal cycle of rebirth.
