Fresh from the preserving pan… 🍊✨
A new batch of [the real] Mr Wong Ruby Grapefruit & Elderflower Liqueur Marmalade, jarred and ready to settle in for the months ahead.
Ruby grapefruit, finely hand-cut peel and a generous splash of elderflower liqueur — bright, bittersweet, floral and decidedly grown-up.
Spread lavishly over hot buttered toast or crumpets… or, when breakfast seems far too long to wait, spooned into a gin & marmalade cocktail. 🍸😝

You’ll be able to taste — and take home — a jar at my Bowral Village pop-up over the NSW Labour Weekend, Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 October.

NEW FLAVOUR DROP 🍊🌼
Ruby Red Grapefruit & Elderflower Marmalade

Bright, bittersweet citrus meets delicate elderflower in the latest small-batch creation from [the real] Mr Wong.

In-season Ruby Red grapefruit and lemon are freshly juiced, their peel finely hand-cut, then slowly simmered into a luscious marmalade with that beautiful balance of sweetness and citrus bite.

And then comes the Mr Wong touch… 😝

Just before bottling, a generous slosh of Elderflower Liqueur from No. 8 Distillery in Dunedin, Aotearoa adds a sweet, fragrant floral finish that plays rather nicely with the ruby grapefruit.

For those who prefer their marmalade without the spirited bit, I’ve also made a very limited number of jars with Elderflower cordial — same bright citrus and floral character, sans the booze.

Small batch. Seasonal. And rather special.

A little taste of Aotearoa nostalgia 🇳🇿
If you grew up in New Zealand in the ’60s or ’70s, do you remember these?
We called them “cheesecakes” — although, rather wonderfully, there wasn’t a skerrick of cheese in sight. 😂
A little pastry case, a hidden spoonful of bright raspberry jam, topped with soft vanilla sponge and usually finished with a tiny pastry cross on top. Simple, old-fashioned cake-shop goodness.
As a kid, these were always one of my picks on our weekly visit to the local cake shop — along with a cream horn, naturally!
So imagine my happy, happy, joy, joy when I spotted them at the supermarket on my recent trip back to Auckland. One bite and I was transported straight back to childhood. Funny how food can do that. Now I’m curious… who else remembers the Kiwi “cheesecake”? And what was your must-have from the local cake shop?

A little Auckland pit stop at Daily Bread, Britomart.
Chorizo sausage roll — golden, flaky, generously filled and just the right amount of spicy. And naturally, a good sq**rt of tomato sauce on the side. Mandatory. I don’t make the rules. 😝

Midweek, one pan, minimal washing up — my kind of dinner. 🙌
Taking a little inspo from Jamie O, with a few Mr Wong tweaks: smoked pork, parsley & pecorino snags from LP’s Quality Meats, oven-baked with apple, parsnip, onion and baby fennel, finished with a drizzle of bush honey.
Served with buttery Paris mash because, well… it’s still winter. 😋
Delicious, comforting and best of all, a happy partner because there’s only one pan to wash. Everyone wins. 😂

Perhaps my much-loved Plum, Raspberry & Vanilla Bean, or a jar of Cara Cara Orange & Aperol Marmalade — marmalade with a decidedly grown-up twist.
Well, the wait is nearly over…
[the real] Mr Wong is popping up in Bowral village this NSW Labour Weekend — Saturday 3rd October.
Small batches, seasonal flavours and a few favourites will all be making an appearance.
