The Governors Kitchen

Growing up in a Turkish family living in London, meant my love of food became prominent from a very young age. Big Sunday family dinners were a ritual. They were always loud, brash and full of love. But a Sunday family dinner was never complete without an adequate dose of intense and passionate opposing viewpoints. Yet everything and everyone still came together over food.

Both my mother and my father are amazing cooks and taught me everything I know about food and flavour. But unfortunately, many years of yo-yo dieting and restrictive eating throughout my 20’s and early 30’s, saw me lose my passion for food. Then in 2016, I met Kitty Bloomfield and Craig McDonald, the owners of the bespoke private weightlifting gym NuStrength, in the Southern suburbs of Brisbane.

They truly educated me on food and how to eat and nourish our bodies in a way that helps you to lose body fat, gain muscle, heal your metabolism and most importantly.....is sustainable for the rest of your life. Eating this way gave me back my passion for food and flavours. I began to experiment in the kitchen again but this time, developing recipes that were not only delicious and full of flavour, but recipes that contained ingredients that were good for our bodies, easy for our bodies to break down and that were also macro friendly.

Most people that want to live a healthier lifestyle (no matter what that may look like for you) are eating according to a set amount of calories. The Governors Kitchen came about when I started cooking for the NuStrength community and developing recipes that people could easily make in their own homes as well as be able to effectively fit into their daily caloric intake. I was convinced that eating this way did not need to be boring nor difficult. I was also convinced that eating this way meant that the entire family could eat this way and therefore the need for cooking separate meals would be eradicated. Who has the time for that anyway? I was determined to develop recipes that not only tasted incredible but could also be enjoyed by the whole family, have a good macronutrient breakdown and could be worked into someone’s average daily calorie intake effortlessly.
