There’s something so special about bringing a little piece of Australia to life through quilling.

This beautiful Australian magpie was created entirely from tiny strips of paper, carefully shaped and coiled by hand to capture every detail — from the delicate feathers to those gorgeous little feet.

I’ve paired the quilled magpie with a soft watercolour background of native foliage and golden wattle, creating a piece that celebrates the beauty of our Aussie backyard.

For this quilled artwork, I’m creating the watercolour background first using my Derwent Inktense Blocks, building up soft layers of colour to give the finished piece depth and atmosphere.

Then comes the quilling — one tiny strip of paper at a time, carefully shaped and placed to bring the piece to life.

I love watching a blank piece of paper slowly transform into something completely unique and handmade.

Today I attended a beautiful and incredibly moving memorial service for Amy.

Amy was just 15 years old when she sadly passed away after battling a rare form of cancer — the same age as my daughter, Caitlin.

As a mum, I cannot begin to imagine the heartbreak of losing a child so young.
My heart is truly with Amy’s mum, dad and brother as they navigate a loss no family should ever have to face. I hope they can feel surrounded by love and support during this incredibly difficult time.

I made this handmade quilled sympathy card for Amy’s family, hoping it might bring a small moment of comfort and let them know that they are in my thoughts.

Rest peacefully, beautiful Amy. You will never be forgotten.

🌸 Quilling is my morning meditation. 🌸

Before the day gets busy, I love sitting down with my paper strips, my tools and a little quiet time. There’s something so calming about slowly shaping each tiny piece of paper and watching it come together to create something beautiful.
Each curl, fold and detail gives me a chance to slow down, breathe and be present in the moment.

For me, quilling isn't just a craft… it's my happy place, my creative escape and the perfect way to start my day.

Fifteen years ago, I picked up a few strips of paper and discovered the beautiful art of quilling. I never imagined that one simple craft would become such a huge part of my life.

Over the past 15 years, quilling has brought me creativity, calm, friendships, and countless moments of joy. From creating handmade cards and artworks to teaching workshops and watching others discover the magic of rolling paper for the very first time, it's been an incredible journey.
