🌋 75% OF THE WORLD’S ACTIVE VOLCANOES ARE CONCENTRATED AROUND ONE PART OF THE PLANET…
And if you live along the Pacific, this volcanic zone may be much closer to you than you think. 👀🌎
It’s called the Pacific Ring of Fire.
But don’t imagine an actual ring of flames around the ocean. 🔥
It’s a huge, horseshoe-shaped zone around the Pacific Ocean where several tectonic plates meet.
Think of Earth’s outer layer like a giant puzzle made of enormous pieces. 🧩
Those pieces are called tectonic plates, and they are constantly moving — just a few centimeters each year.
Around the Pacific, many of these plates collide, slide past each other, or one plate gets pushed underneath another.
And that movement can create two of Earth’s most powerful natural events:
🌎 EARTHQUAKES — when built-up stress is suddenly released.
🌋 VOLCANOES — when magma and gases find pathways toward the surface.
The Ring of Fire stretches along areas including Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Alaska, the west coast of North and South America, and many Pacific island regions.
So when you look at the Pacific Ocean on a map, you’re actually looking at one of the most geologically active regions on Earth. 🤯
And the strangest part?
Those enormous plates are still moving right now.
You probably can’t feel it… but Earth beneath you is never completely still. 🌍
