I think there’s something deeper happening when we romanticise our lives, especially when we’re lonely or longing for something that hasn’t arrived yet.
We are relational beings, it’s natural that we reach outward. We want to be held, witnessed, loved, touched, shared with, and that’s more than ok!
Sometimes bringing some of that energy back towards ourselves when it hurts can soothe us.
Creating an environment that gives your nervous system real life sensory experiences of the things you’re longing for.
Softness. Beauty. Sensuality. Safety. Pleasure. Care.
There’s growing research around our environments supporting emotional regulation and restoration, and I have always found this to be true.
We are ideally not just decorating our surroundings, but also building the scaffolding for an inner experience that can eventually be reflected back out into the world.
I think there’s something really beautiful about creating a life that can hold you while you’re still reaching for more.
