It’s been two years since I flew to Canberra for the installation of the second Beacon, commissioned by Australian War Memorial | Shrine, Museum, Archive.
But the design process began long before, from choosing materials through to fabrication. Each pendant began with brass, cut, shaped and precisely machined before every edge and surface was refined by hand. The forged glass was built up in layers, creating a rich depth of colour, with subtle textures and irregularities that give each cylinder its own character.
Bringing the brass and glass together was a careful process of hand assembly, checking the alignment and finish of every component. So much work went into each piece before the light was finally switched on, revealing that warm, candle-like glow.
