Yesterday, in Toulouse, I had the good fortune of almost literally stumbling into the potier Thierry Basile, as he sat perched outside his shop on Rue des Paradoux.

Dear pottery enthusiasts and guests of Madame Voyage | Slow Travel French Retreats (whom I am so excited to meet tomorrow!) if you happen to have extra time in Toulouse, I thoroughly recommend a visit.

His work is wonderfully chaotic - loose and assured, like the man himself. It is honest and strong and full of whimsy. I sense his brain exploded onto every surface. I was not surprised to hear he is also a jazz musician.

I acquired a bowl, which I intend to show, tell and enthuse over at our pottery retreat.

Toulouse is amazing.

I am so glad to know I will return next year. Bookings are open and filling quickly for the two weeks on offer in October 2027. The month, I am told, that live music is in full swing here.

An outing for new work.

This hand thrown and carved stoneware vessel is happily participating in the Hiroe Swen Ceramic Container Award & Exhibition 2026 at the Wa Melbourne Ikebana Festival.

The exhibition celebrates the creative relationship between ceramics and ikebana, building a unique artistic dialogue.

I am taking a break from small batch production to concentrate on teaching, travel and private commissions.

This speckled pink mug and yellow daily bowl has me thinking of breakfast for dinner.

Thank you so much to my lovely subscribers who purchased wares over the last two days.

All the daily bowls were snapped up so quickly. I had, however, overlooked a couple of yellow ones, so have just added them online, alongside this last pink mug, which is more speckled than the representational image online.

When I notice a piece varies more than usual from its online representation, I send the customer a photo of the actual piece they will receive, to be sure they are happy prior to it arriving.

Any time I have done this the answer has been โ€œyes, of courseโ€ because my customers are the best! They understand and appreciate the unique nature of the items they have acquired and that makes me happy
