After months of stitching, gathering, experimenting and making together, Stitch with Sappho opens tomorrow! 🎉 The exhibition brings together work made throughout my Kingston Arts Residency earlier this year and a series of workshops with community participants. The project has explored the surviving fragments of Ancient Greek poet Sappho through embroidery, collected materials, installation and sound 🕸️ I cannot wait to share it with you! G3 Artspace, Parkdale (Shirley Burke Theatre). Exhibition runs Sep 4th - Oct 10th. Gallery open Wed-Sat 11am-4pm. Entry free. It’s been a big weekend! Friday night was the opening of our show Le Studio Gallery and what a fabulous night! Big shout out to the dream team Robyn Bottomley 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮 | Art | Luxe Fashion & Lifestyle range Lynelle Madison for their incredible organisation and curation skills to bring it all together. I feel grateful to be amongst such a fabulous talented bunch of artists at Le Studio 😊Thanks Sophia Sophia ꩜ for photos 1-6 🙏 The exhibition is open for the next 2 weeks 10am-2pm daily. Great artworks on display and for sale.

Today in the studio I am finishing off a textile & mixed media artwork with some slow stitching 🪡 🪡 🪡 This piece has been on the go for a long while and I’ve been reflecting as I work on that question I am so often asked ‘how long did that take you to make?’ 🍃🍂🍃I started laying this artwork out and experimenting with the different materials, techniques and elements I wanted to incorporate to tell her story just over a year ago. But the original concept came from a series of collaged map figure drawings I created back in 2021 and this one emerged from a life drawing I made during 2020. 🍃🍂 🍃 Some of the found materials - old ordinance survey maps of Scotland and carved marble leaves have been waiting to be used in the right artwork for 16 years or more. Obviously I haven’t been only working on this piece for all that time - I have stopped and started and put her away at times to focus on my other projects. But she has been alongside me and I do feel that she has needed that length of time to evolve and develop. I will miss her when she’s finished! It seems fitting that her final stages involve slow stitching and reflecting 🍃🍂🍃😊

Friday June 12th please join me and my fellow artists for the Opening of our Art exhibition! The studio will be open for the duration of the weekend 12th- 14th. 🥂 🖼️ 🧡 This is a wonderful opportunity to check out our beautiful creative space, chat to the artists and view some really great artworks. I will be offering a sneak peek 👀 of my community art installation work in progress and would love to chat with you about it! will of course be serving coffee and other delicious treats ☕️ 🧁 ☀️ 🐕 Put it in your diary! Still working away at finishing off this piece which will hopefully be exhibited at a fabulous group textile art show in July! I’m enjoying a more intuitive approach with this one which includes both machine embroidery and hand stitching and uses lots of found fabrics and also scraps of fabric I have dyed with vegetation.

Working on the ‘chaos thread’ layer of the installation today. I’ve finally rigged up a hanging system in my studio space that I’m happy with - yay! 👍😊 Though layer this is only one part of the installation it’s structurally and conceptually quite important! Once I get this section right everything else will follow….well that’s the plan anyway! 🤞
