MEMORIES FROM LAST SPRING

Looking back is often the best way to plan forward. It’s nostalgic but also brings excitement to what’s about to bloom around the corner.

What do you most look forward to blooming in spring?

BOUQUETS THAT SLAY

All different. All so special to each of the brides that they were created for.

Some were weddings full of blooms, others only had this one arrangement.

Getting your bridal bouquet right for you and your day is a big deal, and I will always go above and beyond to sneak in that extra bloom or special home grown flower just to make it yours.

Which one is your favorite?

THE THING ABOUT FLOWERS

Every season brings a new flower. A new color. A new shape. A new idea. A new couple.

Exploring all of these variables and being open and excited for the changes keeps the ideas fresh, my couples happy and the excitement for what I do never ending!

SUSTAINABLE FLORISTRY UPDATE

I have been doing a lot of growing lately. In my personal life (getting my body back after 5 years of pregnancy or breastfeeding) but also in my business as I develop better systems and update my current ones.

This, and some beautiful conversations with fellow florists has led me to changing my wording when it becomes to SUSTAINABLE FLORISTRY.

I want to preface this by saying I have made no changes to make myself less sustainable. I am always striving to better.

Green washing is a horrible thing in any industry, and I pride my business on its authenticity and transparency. Basically when you know better you do better- and the fact is I am not a fully sustainable wedding florist.

But this is what I am-
🌼100% Foam free- and have never used it in my business
🌼All my green waste goes in the green waste bin and any other waste in their appropriate bins
🌼I reuse as much as I can- packaging for stuffing, yoghurt containers for transporting bouquets, chicken wire infinitely to support my designs.
🌼 I prioritize local and Australian grown. Local I would classify as blooms that I could pick up from farms myself (if I had all the time to drive around for them). f_lower_hub has helped me so much in sourcing the BEST local products and buying from small (mostly) woman run businesses is something that means so much to me. If I can’t get it local then ideally it’s Australian grown. Imported flowers are full of nasty chemicals and carry huge flying miles so I do my best to avoid them.
🌼I grow what I can, using no nasty chemicals in the space we have. Over 50% of our main growing are in wicking beds that honestly probably use 50% less water than the other beds. We also use water tanks to catch rain water.
🌼I source 2nd hand vases and vessels whenever I can
🌼I do not use bleached, died or painted products. If I use any dried botanicals at all they are dried by me and hung up to air dry.
🌼I do not use moss as it’s not farmed and mostly not sustainably harvested.

For me- these are the most important steps towards sustainable floristry. And as my business and I grow hopefully we can get closer to being fully sus

THE TOP 5 FLOWER ELEMENTS I WOULD WANT AT MY WEDDING

Yes I’m already married and I absolutely loved our day, but if we were to have it again these are all the elements I would make sure we’re top of my list.

1. Ceremony flowers that suit my venue AND wedding party- if the flowers don’t work with your venue (like you want plinths in front of an already existing arbor) or you can’t see the flowers because you have a large wedding party, then you need to re think your designs. They are an investment for your whole day and shouldn’t be hidden or look out of place.

2. Aisle flowers- not only do they make such a beautiful statement up your aisle, but they are so easily reused in your reception. Think on tables or at table ends, on the bar, near your seating sign, in front of your bridal party table.

3. Out of the box bouquet designs- there are so many different designs out there now so you don’t have to simply walk down the aisle holding a ball of flowers. Think wired bouncy bouquet’s, hand bag bouquets, garland heavy bouquets. And it’s not just the bridal bouquets that can be non traditional. Mono bouquets for bridesmaid in single colors are such a stunning look when paired with an epic bridal bouquet.

4. Cake flower installation or bar installation- creating a large, intricately designed arrangement with texture, color and movement for around the cake or on the bar that your guests can stand near for photos is a win in my book. And your guests will remember it a lot more than small arrangements spread out everywhere- as will you.

5. Colors that I love and mean something to my partner- what are the colors you wear and feel good in? What color clothes did you wear in your first date or on a special moment in your lives together? What blooms did you see on that crazy hike you did when it poured the whole time? What blooms do you gift each other?

Send this to a couple who are starting to plan their day and let me know what you think!
