🩵 Winter break 🩵

This is my favourite time of year to take a break from social media, so I will be off for the rest of the winter! ❄️

Over the next couple of months I plan to start up a monthly newsletter 📧 If you would like to receive it you can sign up via our website (link in bio, scroll down near the bottom of the website ☺️). If you booked a picking session with us during the season then you are already signed up to the newsletter 🙌🏻

Hopefully during the next few months I will be able to balance the digging, weeding, planning, admin and dividing dahlias with lots of rest, reading, catch-ups and a reset of healthy daily rhythms ⚖️

A little recap for those who have started following us since we opened in February 💜

We are Matt and Alice - we have been married for 10 years, have 3 young children and are the owners of Mountain River Flower Patch 💐

After a few years of Matt bringing home many plants, I suggested that maybe one day we should open our garden up to the public so others could enjoy all he was planting! Matt, keen to buy more plants, promptly planted a few little rows so we could experiment with some cut flower varieties. Those first plants were small and had few blooms but, despite the mediocre harvest, we kept moving forward with the idea.

In spring 2024 we planted out some bigger trial rows, and these ones flourished and produced way more flowers than we expected! We were able to sell bunches, host parties and invite friends to come and pick during the summer and autumn months of 2025.

After the success of the trial rows, and at the encouragement of all who visited we decided to go ahead and open to the public much sooner than we had originally planned.

We had a very busy second half of 2025 as we doubled the amount of rows in our main patch, planted a whole rose garden and some natives.

In February of this year we opened up to the public for the first time and while we were nervous and very unsure what to expect, we had such an amazing couple of months with so much support from the community 🥰

The last of our blooms 💐

Yesterday morning the big frost came and ended our flower picking season, a bit earlier than we hoped ❄️

A big thankyou to all those who attended public pick-your-own sessions, organised private groups to come and pick, tagged us, shared our posts and encouraged us throughout the season 🤍

We have had a wonderful first season, welcoming so many flower-loving guests to the patch and learning a lot about what we want to adjust for next season 🌱

We have so many flowers in bloom - they have been loving this rain! 😍

We have a few spots left for Friday’s picking session from 4pm and Saturday’s session from 2pm - bring a picnic with your family or friends and come enjoy the scenery and pick a bunch to take home 💐

We have opened up a few sessions during the school holidays too - check out our website for days and times 🤍
