Back into it after my week away, delivering some new stock to the shop including a few small items picked up in Bathurst.

There’s a couple of 1930’s/40’s timber spool fishing reels including a very nice cedar Alvey 625C with original line guide, a group of old “Durex Tool Bits” boxes, a classic Spong 633 bean slicer, butter paddles, a timber thread spindle, a few 1900’s earthenware ink bottles, repro signs, Deco bowl and a pair of 1920’s oval frames with convex glass.

There’s always a new skill to develop or something different to try when you work with timber. My favourite Wusthoff kitchen knife’s handle became brittle over time and started to fall apart.

I’ve never made a knife handle till now, happy with the way it’s turned out and learned a few things along the way. A good result!

Today was Art Deco light day… with fresh stock delivered today of two Diana lamps and one table lamp.

Diana lamps are an Art Deco classic, always in high demand for collectors and appreciators of the Art Deco era. The larger of the two includes original paint on “Diana” and its original marbled spherical shade. One of the nicest I’ve ever sourced.

The table light is actually an original Art Deco ceiling light which I thought would work better as a table lamp. I made a stepped base for it from New Guinea Rosewood and Blackwood and gave it a good clean and polish, very happy with the way it’s turned out. Reminds me of an old radio microphone.

I finished and delivered to the shop the hall or console table I’ve been working on lately.

A set of old washstand legs were used with a mix of recycled timber, salvaged castors and 120 year old Redwood architrave trim to make the table which I painted with chalk paint, this was then rubbed back by hand and sealed for durability.

Hopefully it finds a new home soon, on to the next project!

Well past due for another update. There’s lots on the go atm at the warehouse, glad to get a chance to drop some fresh stock off at the shop.

The undoubted jewel in the crown is the 1920’s Art Deco “Curt Schlevogt Grape Harvest” malachite vase, this is the rare large version, not the baby. Speaking of large versions of things and Art Deco, there’s an amethyst Crown Crystal Swan bowl,

Perfect patina on a brass Arts and Crafts jug with a hammered finish, a 1960’s Parker fountain pen with 14C gold accents with original box, 1980’s gold Papermate pen in original box, an American pressed glass creamer C1910 and a one pint measuring jug C1920.
