Danica Wichtermann Ceramic Artist Ceramic Artist and Teacher. Pottery workshops and Home Studio Shop. Custom orders and gifts available. Please enjoy and Rediscover Ceramics.”

Specialising in Australian Botanical vases, homewares and tableware created from porcelain clay. A childhood spent beachcombing, camping trips in the wilderness and a keen interest in botanicals, led Danica Wichtermann to channel her creativity and natural curiosity into the fine arts. It was a passion that inspired the Fremantle local to study visual arts. The results of her studies have enabled

her to create her own ceramics collection Rediscover Ceramics, which she now makes by hand in her studio in Wattle Grove, Western Australia. Danica completed her formal education studying a Diploma of Education and a BA in Fine Arts at Curtin University. She has won multiple awards for her ceramic sculptures, participates in numerous exhibitions and is represented by multiple galleries in Australia. Her Porcelain Collections start their humble beginning on the pottery wheel. Over time, mounds of clay evolve to become a canvas that tells her story. Each surface resonates what she lives amongst and loves so dearly - the Great Australian Bush. Her passion is to encapsulate our vast landscapes and unique flora, capturing that which is so different from other lands. Contrasting colours and intricate sculptural forms endlessly inspire her days carving in her studio.

For World Parrot Day, WA artists are coming together to celebrate one of the most iconic sounds of our landscape — the black cockatoo 🖤

Featuring artworks inspired by Carnaby’s, Baudin’s and Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoos, this collaborative post highlights the deep connection between art, place and conservation across Western Australia.

These birds move through our suburbs, forests and farmland carrying stories of resilience, fragility and belonging. Their calls overhead are unforgettable, yet all three species continue to face increasing threats through habitat loss, land clearing and the loss of nesting hollows.

A heartfelt thank you to the artists taking part:

• Peter Caddy  — Red-tailed Black Cockatoo

• Sally Edmonds — Baudin’s Black Cockatoo

• Abdul-Rahman Abdullah — creaky grating squawks (2024)Featuring a red-tailed black cockatoo

• Kay Gibson — Carnaby Courtship

• Sally Boussoualim — Female Red Tails Eating Eucalyptus Caesia Nuts

• Danica Wichtermann — What Remains (2025)Featuring all three black cockatoo speciesImage by Greg Rowney

Please take a moment to explore the artists involved, follow their work, share this post or your own, and continue supporting conservation efforts that help protect black cockatoos and their habitats for future generations.

We have many incredible native parrots here in Western Australia, but I am particularly drawn to the black cockatoos.

You often hear them before you see them.

The rush of wings overhead. The calls echoing across the trees. The scattered marri nuts left behind beneath the canopy.

Western Australia is home to three remarkable black cockatoos — Carnaby’s, Baudin’s and the Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo — all deeply connected to the health of our native landscapes.

Much of my work is inspired by these birds, their movement, textures and increasing vulnerability. Through porcelain, carving and botanical impressions, I try to capture both their beauty and the urgency of protecting the habitats they rely on.

On World Parrot Day, 31 May, this is a small reminder to slow down, look up and listen.

May their calls continue to echo across Country for generations to come.
