Remember my glazes testing recently? Well here are the yummy results 👏

Some absolute crackers here and exactly what I was looking for, so many options and lovely satin matte glazes which just feel divine to touch.

The individual test tiles are each of the 4 glazes tested, dipped fully then dipped again half so you can see the results on 3 different clays and thinner/thicker coats.

The line blends are different percentages of copper and SG (glaze thickness)

The bowls show the glazes on white or black clay and parts overlapping with the addition of a litte ash wash!

So potentially any little part can be recreated to create a new glaze combo. So many options!

g l a z e testing •

Jumping right back into it for 2026, new projects coming up which require some different glazes to get the look and feel I'm chasing. Here's a little peek into part of the process!

Glaze testing is part science part maths, alot of notes, then excitement and anticipation for the firing 🔥 results.

In the studio I test and make all my glazes from raw materials, the base recipes are usually from books and online forums which are then tweaked with a multitude of testing to find the right fit and colour.

The raw ingredients are combined in different ratios to make a gloss, semi gloss, matte, transparent, opaque glaze and then the oxides are used as colourants. Next variables are the clays, application, firing, cooling, can all make a glaze look totally different!

So lots of testing happens before a glaze makes it into production!

Personally, I love this part of ceramics combining chemistry and delving into all the variables you can achieve ✨️

A little update on the past couple of weeks! To say it's been hectic is probably an understatement 🙃

In between workshops, getting work finished for the upcoming market this weekend and school holidays, the worst happened at the wrong time 🙉 an element in the kiln broke!!!! Disaster in a pottery studio!

Thanks to friends .0 the kiln firings continued and the big big decision on kiln going forward was made! Eeek 👏 thank you to for making the process so easy, can't believe this beautiful kiln is hooked up in the studio ✨️🧡

Then the process of testing the new kiln firings begins all while trying to get everything finished for this weekends market.

Very exciting times ☺️
