Canada bound 🇨🇦

I’m heading to Canada with my cohort to complete the final subject of my Master of Indigenous Business Leadership at Monash University.

Studying while working full time and running Luruk-In has been a massive journey, so reaching this last subject feels pretty special. I’ll be learning from First Nations and Métis leaders, Elders, entrepreneurs and community members across Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton and Winnipeg - and helping co-lead the Vancouver leg as part of the student leadership team.

I’m looking forward to the art, conversations, landscapes and all the little moments in between. I’ll share what I can along the way and reflect on what this experience brings to my leadership and creative practice.

The final chapter begins. Come along for the journey ✨

While visiting Bendigo a few weeks back, I thought I’d take a drive through Axedale, just east of town, and check on this big beauty. Still as vibrant as ever 🌈

I painted this mural alongside Dja Dja Wurrung artist Troy Firebrace at the McIvor Highway underpass, near the Campaspe River where Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurung Country meet.

We brought our own styles and cultures into this work, celebrating our differences and the connection we share. Pretty special to come back and see it still bringing colour and story to this little corner of Country. 🖤💛❤️

Let me reintroduce myself. 👋🏾

I’m Aimee - a proud Taungurung, Wotjobaluk, Wemba Wemba and Boon Wurrung woman, artist, business owner, wife, daughter, sister and friend.

My art is shaped by all of it. My culture, family, friendships, work, the places I’ve lived and the little moments that stay with me.

Art has made me more observant. It has taught me to slow down and notice colour, texture, people, nature and the stories held in ordinary moments. A conversation, a landscape, a laugh with friends or a quiet moment can all find their way into what I create.

These photos are a little look at the person behind Luruk-In. Not just the artist, but the whole person whose life and experiences are woven into every piece. 💕

Manifested so hard, my artwork is now on a Cotton On tote bag. 🥹

At the start of this year, I sent a few hopeful emails to brands I dreamed of working with. Cotton On Foundation came back to me in March, and now my Murnongs artwork is part of a campaign that’s officially live.

Seeing a story grounded in Country reach a national audience is a moment I don’t think I’ll ever take for granted. I’m so proud of this collaboration, what it represents and the new people it will introduce to my art.

Sometimes you have to send the email, share the work and back yourself before you know where it might lead.

The Murnongs tote is live now. If you spot one, please send me a photo. I’d love to see where it travels. ❤️

What days off? 😂

Apparently my idea of a day off is… more painting.

But honestly, keeping Luruk-In moving while holding down a job in the airforce takes a lot of dedication. The painting is only one part of it, and I’m trying to fit it all in alongside time with my family, catching up with friends and actually having a rest.

I love what I’m building, but I’m not going to pretend I’ve nailed the balance. Some days I’m full of ideas. Other days I need to put the brush down and just be a person for a bit.

So if you’re building something you love around work and life too, I see you. We’re allowed to love it and still need a day off. 🤍

I had Renoir postcards on my wall at uni.

And then I walked into the Musée d’Orsay and stood in front of the real ones.

This was my favourite museum from my trip to Paris earlier in the year. Less crowded, stunning light, and art that made me feel things I didn’t expect.

I’ve loved Impressionism since I was a teenager - the softness of it, the way it captures life and light and feeling.

Standing there, I understood something new about why I paint the way I do.

Every part of Woortbirrm-gruk carries meaning.

Created for the Monash University Women’s Lounge, this large-scale artwork celebrates womanhood, connection and the collective strength of women.

The ten gathering places represent the university’s ten faculties. River-inspired patterns connect them, reflecting women coming together to learn, lead, share knowledge and support one another.

The bold, warm colours hold both softness and strength, creating a space that honours identity and community.

Confidence is a funny thing. Some days I feel it, other days I’m just showing up and hoping it catches up with me.

Looking back at everything I’ve achieved this past year, maybe that’s the secret. 20% confidence, 80% showing up anyway.

A commission isn’t just a job. It’s a responsibility. 🎨

When I was approached to create artwork for the Taungurung Land and Waters Council, I brought the full depth of my practice to the brief. The work grew through research, consultation and cultural care.

The result is a pice that doesn’t just represent Country - it honours it.

This is what Luruk-In is built for.

I still can’t quite believe my artwork is on a Cotton On tote bag.

This little unboxing felt pretty surreal. Collaborations like this might look shiny once they’re out in the world, but there are a lot of conversations, ideas, late nights and consistent work behind them.

Very proud to finally hold this one in my hands. If you’ve spotted the bags in store, send me a photo 🤎
