🌿 A new place to find RS Studio in the wild

We’re delighted to welcome Minnamurra Rainforest Centre as a new RS Studio stockist.

Set within the beautiful Minnamurra Rainforest near Kiama, the Centre is a wonderful day-trip destination from Sydney, the South Coast or the Southern Highlands.

Wander the elevated walkways beneath the rainforest canopy, listen for birds among the trees, feel the mist from the waterfalls and keep an eye out for local residents including superb lyrebirds, eastern water dragons and swamp wallabies.

And while you’re there, pop into the Minnamurra Visitor Centre, chat with the friendly team and discover a selection of RS Studio’s handcrafted timber lamps, designed and made in Melbourne from Australian timbers.

There’s something rather fitting about finding our timber lamps surrounded by one of Australia’s beautiful rainforest landscapes. 🌿✨

Trade fairs are funny places.

Months of designing, prototyping, sanding, finishing and packing all come down to a few seconds as someone walks past your stand.

When they stop, smile and say, “I’ve never seen anything quite like these,” it makes every one of those workshop hours worthwhile.

It takes 49 individual steps to make a Portable Bubble Lamp. Here are a few peeks inside the workshop.

From selecting the timber and laser cutting each component, to revealing the flexible kerfed panel, forming its curved shape, and carefully sanding and finishing the surface—every lamp is made and assembled by hand in Melbourne.

This week, I’ll be bringing the finished collection to Life Instyle Melbourne. If you’re a retailer looking for distinctive Australian-made design, come and experience the lamps in person.

Market Wrap-Up: The Almost Winter Big Design Market unfolded across one of those crisp, sunny Melbourne autumn weekends.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by over the three days, whether you were discovering RS Studio for the first time or returning for another lamp. Seeing familiar faces again means a lot, especially after spending so much time designing and making these pieces quietly in the studio.

The newly released Portable Bubble Lamp in Queensland Maple received a warm response. The timber has this beautiful wavy, shimmering grain that almost seems to move in the light, and it quickly became one of the stand-out pieces of the weekend. It will now officially become part of the core range.

There was also strong interest in the new Tall Portable Bubble Lamps, which has sent me straight back into the workshop this week to keep up with orders.

Tasmanian Blackwood timber continued to be a favourite too, with its rich golden-brown tones and dramatic streaking that makes every lamp slightly different.

Thanks again for supporting small-scale Australian design and sustainable local manufacturing. Every conversation, purchase, kind word and shared story helps keep RS Studio growing.

Find us glowing at the The Big Design Market ✨

Our sculptural timber lamps will be on display in full atmosphere beneath the vaulted halls of the Royal Exhibition Building, alongside the release of a new cordless Bubble Lamp crafted from Queensland Maple.

Queensland Maple carries a luminous sheen with flowing grain that shifts between wavy, curly and interlocked patterns — a timber long favoured in high-end guitar making for its depth, warmth and visual movement 🎸🌿

What I love most about markets is the conversations.
People from across Melbourne and around the world, all searching for something… even if they’re not quite sure what yet.
