If you enjoy the slow, meditative side of foundation paper piecing, the Half Pineapple might be just your kind of block.

There’s something very satisfying about the repetition of this one. Simply cut your strips to the same width, then settle in and sew. No complicated fabric preparation, and it’s a great way to work through your scrap pile one strip at a time.

The real fun comes when the blocks are finished. Rotate and rearrange them to create numerous layouts, with secondary patterns appearing depending on how you place them. The same simple block can look completely different from one quilt to the next.

A good one for those days when you’re not in a hurry and just want to enjoy the making.

The Four Seasons foundation paper piecing pattern lets you use fabric to tell the story of the seasons. Think fresh greens and blossoms for spring, rich leafy greens for summer, warm golds and rusts for autumn, or cool, quiet shades for winter.

It’s a lovely block for playing with colour and using fabrics you already have, and you can make just one season or create a set of all four. Change the palette and the same tree takes on a completely different mood.

With multiple sizes included, you can turn your trees into cushions, wall hangings, seasonal table pieces or combine them into a quilt that changes from season to season.

A versatile pattern with plenty of room to make it your own.

Nine patches, plenty of scraps, and a quilt that’s made for sewing from your stash.

The Nine Patch Chain quilt is scrap and stash friendly, and it works beautifully with precuts too. Choose a colourway you love, mix in some low volume fabrics, and start pulling together those fabrics that have been waiting for the right project.

The repeating nine patches create a lovely chain across the quilt, giving all those different prints and scraps a sense of order while still keeping that scrappy look.

And if Nine Patch Chain has been on your list, now is a good time to grab the pattern. My Shop Your Stash Sale is on now, with 20% off digital patterns until 21 August (Australian Eastern Time).

Love the look of octagons in quilt blocks? These foundation paper piecing patterns explore the octagon shape while keeping the finished blocks square and easy to use in your quilting projects.

Choose from five different octagon-inspired FPP designs:

🟥 Octagon Square – perfect for featuring fussy cuts and favourite fabrics, and a fun alternative to an economy block
🖼 Octagon Frame – another great choice for showcasing a special print or fussy cut in the centre
⭕️ Octagon Ring – a scrap-friendly design that looks especially striking repeated across a whole quilt
🏐 Octagon Snowball – an easy foundation paper piecing block with a generous centre that’s ideal for fussy cutting
⚙️ Broken Wheel – a more geometric take on the octagon, with plenty of opportunities to play with colour and contrast
🎡 Octagon Twirl - gives the effective of curves without sewing curves

Because the finished blocks are square, they’re easy to mix into samplers or repeat to create cushions, mini quilts and larger quilt designs.

They’re also a great way to use your scraps and stash. Change the fabric placement, rotate the blocks or repeat them and see just how many different looks you can create.

Love the look of hexagons, but not so keen on Y-seams?

Another Story gives you those lovely hexagon shapes without the fiddly piecing. Each hexagon stays in one piece, giving you plenty of room to show off a favourite print, a large floral or a carefully chosen fussy cut.

The blocks are large and completely machine pieced, so the quilt comes together surprisingly quickly. It’s also a great choice for an I-Spy quilt, where every hexagon can feature something different.

I’ve made this quilt five times, which probably tells you how much I enjoy making it!

And if you’d like to make the cutting even easier, acrylic templates are available for accurate rotary cutting.

You know those scraps that are too good to throw away, but somehow never quite find their way into a quilt?

Berry Parfait gives them a reason to come out of the scrap bin.

Choose a favourite colourway, pull together a mix of fabrics from your stash and watch all those individual pieces become a quilt that feels colourful, interesting and surprisingly cohesive.

Work within one colour family for a more controlled look, or mix in plenty of shades and prints for something wonderfully scrappy. It’s a pattern you can make again with a completely different fabric pull and get a completely different result.

Berry Parfait is rotary cut and machine pieced using traditional piecing techniques.

Available in two sizes:
• Throw – 67" × 67"
• Bed – 84" × 84"

Turn the scraps you’ve been saving into a quilt you’ll actually get to enjoy.
