Let’s be real, I love a bargain. Who doesn’t. And before Soon After 一 100% TENCEL™ Bedding, I was also that girl who bought cotton sheets at 1000 thread count - the higher, the better right??

Until we went deep into learning about how fibres/fabrics are grown and made, I started to pay more attention to ‘what’s on the label’. Certifications, manufacturing process, what it means to the environment etc etc.

Swipe through for the deep dive that changed how I shop (and, eventually, what we built this brand on).

Here’s our honest verdict after two years.

The softness is real. Like, genuinely nothing-else-comes-close soft. If you’ve ever woken up with sheet marks on your face from scratchy fabric, you’ll get it. Jess sleeps on her belly and swears by how gentle the fibre feels against her skin. No rough edges, no friction, just that smooth, broken-in feel that gets better with every wash.

And for anyone trying to make more conscious choices without having to compromise on comfort, really is the win-win. Sustainably managed forests. Closed-loop manufacturing. Low environmental impact from start to finish.

High comfort. Low footprint. Two years in and we’re still obsessed. 🌿

“I wish I found Tencel sooner”, we hear this a lot.

Once you’ve slept in l, it’s hard to go back to other fabrics. Here’s what we wish we knew earlier too.

🌱That sheen when it’s fresh out of the bag goes away after the first few washes - and that’s actually a good thing! The fibres relax, and what you’re left with is this soft, broken-in feel that just keeps getting better. Think cotton, but SO MUCH SOFTER.

🌱It’s also hypoallergenic, not because of anything added to it, but just because of what it is. Made from wood pulp, produced without toxic chemicals. Gentle on skin without trying to be.

🌱And the breathability and moisture-wicking part: you can actually feel it. Especially if you run warm at night.

We chose TENCEL™ because we wanted bedding we could genuinely stand behind, and the more you know about it, the more it makes sense ✨

Here’s something we keep coming back to: natural is genuinely better than synthetic. Full stop. But it’s not the end of the conversation.

Every fibre, whether it’s cotton, wool, linen, or a wood-based fibre like Tencel and bamboo has a story that starts long before it reaches you.

How it was grown or raised. What chemicals were used during the manufacturing process. Whether the people making it were treated fairly. Whether the forests it came from were responsibly managed.

None of that shows up on a standard label. Which is exactly why we wanted to break it down.

This post covers the most common fibres, the supply chain questions worth asking, and the certifications that worth looking out for.

Save it for the next time you’re shopping for something that’s going to live in your home 🫶🏻🌱

‘Natural fibre’ has always been the shorthand for better: better for your skin, better for the planet. Especially compared to synthetics like polyester and nylon.

Since we started building Soon After, we’ve learned that the supply chain tells you far more than the fibre type alone:

🧵how the fibre is grown or harvested,
🧵what happens during manufacturing, and
🧵whether the people making it are treated fairly.

Because natural fibre can still be grown with synthetic pesticides. It can still come from farms that don’t meet animal welfare standards. The label “natural” doesn’t guarantee any of that.

Over the next few posts I’m going to break this all down. What to look for, which certifications matter, and which ones don’t tell the full story.

Stay tuned! 👀
