What is the difference between polyester and PET plastic?

Polyester is produced from PET plastic!

The polyester fibres are created from polyethylene terephthalate, or, PET - the same material of single-use water bottles!

Aout 40% of PET goes to plastics, like water bottles. But the other 60% goes to synthetic textiles, like polyester. Crazy!

As you are probably aware, polyester is the most widely used textile globally. It is cost effective to manufacture and purchase, moisture resistant and durable.

But, it is also the most detrimental textile produced. It is not sustainable. It requires extensive water and energy consumption, and isn’t biodegradable.

Something as simple as washing your polyester clothing, or bed linen, contributes to microplastic pollution in the waterways, which has long-term consequences to the environment. And in turn, human health (E.g. dietary sources, like fish). It’s a vicious cycle.

And PET itself has been linked to endocrine disruption (your hormones), from toxic chemicals that may leach out of the material, even when utilised in interiors (e.g. textiles, furnishings) - There’s a bit of hint on our upcoming Blog post topic!

When you are shopping for clothing, soft furnishings, or even upholstered furniture, opt for sustainably-produced natural fibres, and ideally Oeko-Tex-certified (free from toxic chemicals).

I’m so excited (but also quietly sh!tting myself)!!

I was so grateful and fortunate enough to collaborate on this book that was released back in 2024 by global science-focused publisher, Elsevier.

It was years of prior research, and also a few years in the making itself. My research focused on some of the most prevalent toxins within the built environment, and how they can directly harm our health - a topic I’ve been diving into for more than a decade now, and integrating into my interior architecture and design projects.

Though in a much faster fashion, the team recently invited me to speak at a New Zealand conference about the hidden dangers of plastics within buildings…. And it’s happening on Monday!!!

It is a full day Symposium with multiple speakers all sharing valuable insights. I’m not entirely sure as yet if there’ll be a link for live access, but I’ll share as soon as know.

To be in a room (even virtually) with such like-minded and incredible people striving to make a difference… well, I’ve not yet wrapped my brain around that 🤍

At the start of 2026, I made a quiet promise to myself - to not turn down an opportunity out of fear. Sometimes you just have to take that leap… and pinch yourself later!!

More than 100,000 new chemical substances have been introduced into communities over the past decades, with the majority of them being within our homes.

Swipe across to see common toxins, how they can impact our health, and where to find them.

The last slide reveals the toxic accumulated effect of all of these toxins - what we breathe in, absorb through our skin, and digest (even through dust), every day.

This is why it is The Paradigm Room’s mission to design differently. To truly make a difference. For you, and your family.

We design beautiful homes and office fitouts that are ALSO low tox, high-performing, and highly-functional… all designed specifically for you.

Teaming up with a brilliant architect, we now offer complete and integrated interior design and architectural services to South-East Queensland, Canberra, and everywhere in between. Contact us to see how we can help today.

One of my lovely 2024 clients sent me these kind words last week. And it is the exact reason why I do what I do 🤍

A series of personal experiences and a rather unique education path to date, has led me to exactly what I do today. And I believe everyone on this earth has a unique expression to share with the world.

Over the past two decades, I’ve learnt that ‘not all is as it seems.’ Buildings are intended to be our safe space. But they can very well have the opposite effect on our health, influencing acute and chronic illness.

So today, I advocate for better buildings. I pursue sustainable design and low tox practices (far beyond just ‘low VOC,’ that’s not enough!) to truly design healthier and much more responsible buildings, for you.

Am I going to help you JUST create a beautiful space? No.
I will help you achieve a beautiful space that also:
- Suits you and your way of living perfectly,
- Supports your health and well-being through genuine true low tox details and materials,
- Assesses cradle-to-cradle processes to ensure a future for your kids and grandkids,
- And much, much more.

And now also offering, complete integrated interior design and architecture services, for new homes, renovations, extensions and commercial fitouts.

2016 and 2025… Difficult but pivotal years.

Did 2025 feel like 365 days of insane white water rafting for you? It was crazy, intense… anyone else?

Last year was challenging. Only three years into branching out on my own and working full-time, while also going back to uni, sure had its challenges. And while I don’t regret any of it, I’m grateful for all the lessons learnt.

Though unrelated to interior design and architecture, I love astrology. I was looking into the Chinese calendar, with 2025 being the Year of the Snake and the upcoming Year of the Horse commencing next month.

And during this process, I reflected back on the start of this 9 year cycle, from 2016. My camera roll of that year are endless photos of building defects, mould, water damage and physical ailments.

I suffered from a biotoxin illness that took years to recover from, associated with my water-damaged home (and since then, I’ve been coeliac too).

But, as ‘blessings in disguise’ go, it lead me to where I am now, advocating for better building standards, more awareness and education, and healthier ways of living. And I’m so passionate and keen to continue and grow this in my own practice through 2026.

If you’re thinking of building your dream home or renovating, get in touch today.

Now offering complete interior design & architectural services in the Toowoomba region, South-East QLD, and NSW.

Australian homes are conventionally flawed!

The typical house is shelter, a shell, and we may add some artwork, colour and texture to create a home.

But what if that home was hindering your health, or even detracting from it?

That’s the reality of most buildings today. They’re comprised of toxic materials, much more than is commonly realized. They’re poorly insulated, not designed specifically for their climate, and cost you a fortune to heat and cool.

What if we could create a home that genuinely supported your well-being, and became a sanctuary for yourself and family?

That’s where The Paradigm Room comes in. We specialise in top quality interior design that is low tox, energy efficient and sustainable, all while responding specifically to your needs. Your project should be as special and as unique as you.

Your dream sanctuary, brought to life. For life 🌱

Yesterday was World Su***de Prevention Day, to honour all the beautiful lives we’ve sadly lost and also a reminder to check in with our loved ones.

And to further support this, I’ve signed up to participate in One Foot Forward again this year.

I’ve been on the fence out signing up this year because things have been so hectic and overwhelming lately. But the truth is, recent months have been slowly chipping away at my mental health too.

But is that not exactly what One Foot Forward supports? Raising awareness of mental illness, encouraging each other to share and reach out, support each other through harder times, and of course honour all the lives we’ve sadly lost.

So I will be walking for One Foot Forward this October, to raise awareness and support anyone and everyone doing it tough. And if you would like a non-judgmental and listening ear to talk to, please reach out.

If this is a cause close to your heart too, please feel free to donate and let’s make a difference. I’ll drop the link in the Conments, or send me a DM.

When I started The Paradigm Room (more than 3.5 years ago now, it’s crazy how time flies!), there were always big visions behind it.

The vision drew from personal experiences that were massive pivotal moments for me, along with extensive research and study projects along the way.

But all of this has taken a bit of a back seat lately, while I’ve felt completely buried at my desk. And I’ve been blown away with the consistency and quality of projects lately, I’m immensely grateful for them. But it’s also been a bit of a reality check (again!), that it isn’t sustainable and our health and well-being should be our first priority.

So as I close out a couple of larger projects, commence quite a few new ones, I’ll slowly become more present on here again. And I’d love to continue to share with you all things about design, construction, and also and importantly, health and well-being.

And until next time, I’ll leave you with this quote (plus, make sure you’re looking after yourself too).

It has been absolutely crazy lately here at The Paradigm Room, with projects, future-planning and some extra studies in the background.

For everyone who feels like life is going at a million miles an hour, I just wanted to take a moment to remind you too to take a break and breathe. Life can get so hectic that we can forget to look after ourselves and to still find calmness and joy in the little things.

Make a tea, take a stroll, sit in the sunshine, whatever it is you need.
And breathe 🤍⁣
