You put considerable thought into making your home welcoming for everyone else. You deserve that same consideration.

Your primary suite has an important role in your wellbeing. A place to rest, recover and have a little privacy helps you replenish the energy you give to everyone else. Taking care of yourself deserves a place in the design of your home.

Hosting Thanksgiving? You may notice exactly where your home makes it easy—and where it makes you work.

The glasses you have to search for. Drinks stored across the room. The drawer everyone needs while you’re preparing dinner.

These are interior design decisions.

In our Briar Hill project, glassware and liquor pullouts sit beside one another, with w**e refrigeration and smaller essentials nearby. Their placement was considered as part of how our clients would serve, host and use the space.

That thinking extends beyond the cabinetry to where people sit, how they move between the kitchen and living room, and how the host can stay part of the gathering.

Designing for entertaining begins with understanding what happens when people come over. Then we plan the space and its details around it.

If this is the home you want to stay in, that intention belongs in the floor plan.

A main-floor primary suite can make everyday living easier now and give you more flexibility as life changes. Its success depends on thoughtful interior design: where it sits, how private it feels and how the bedroom, dressing area and ensuite work together.

Being on the main floor should still feel like having a retreat. Consider the separation from entertaining spaces, sound, natural light and the route between the rooms you use every day.

Then consider the details that can support you over time: generous doorways, a curbless shower, comfortable circulation and storage within easy reach. These can be integrated beautifully into the architecture.

A beautiful kitchen and a beautiful fireplace don’t automatically make a beautifully designed room.

In an open-concept home, interior design considers how those features relate to each other—and how you experience the space as a whole.

The proportions of the range hood. The visual weight of the fireplace. The relationship between cabinetry, stone, wood and lighting. Each decision influences the next.

A curbless shower brings a continuous floor into the ensuite and removes the step at the entrance. It is a design choice that can serve you beautifully now and accommodate changing needs over time.

The same consideration belongs in the rest of the room: space to move comfortably, a place to sit, and controls and storage positioned within easy reach.

Your morning routine belongs in the kitchen plan.

In this Briar Hill renovation, the breakfast station brings coffee, tea, small appliances and everyday essentials together in one dedicated space.

Pocket doors recess fully while the station is in use. Drawers keep the things our clients reach for organized and accessible. Once breakfast is finished, everything can close away.

Making this work takes more than choosing cabinetry. The station’s location, door clearances, storage and relationship to the rest of the kitchen all need to be considered together.

That is the work of interior design: understanding how you live and planning the space to support it beautifully.

I have to admit, I smiled when I saw this.

In 2019, we sourced this sculptural light fixture for a client’s home. Seven years later, House Beautiful is calling it the “it” light of 2026.

What interests me most is seeing a piece we deliberately sought out and selected in 2019 receive this kind of recognition seven years later. At the time, it was not an obvious or widely seen choice—we chose it because of what we saw in the design.

Its' soft, irregular form has enough character to be distinctive, but enough restraint to work in very different interiors. In the House Beautiful library, it softens the strong architecture of the shelving. In our client’s home, it brings a sculptural counterpoint to the substantial wood table and upholstered chairs.

That is what thoughtful sourcing should do.

It is not simply about finding what is new. It is about recognizing pieces with the proportion, character and staying power to continue feeling right years later.

We chose it in 2019.
It still feels completely at home in 2026.
