My art has really been evolving this year!

Thanks to some new tools and inspiration to make smaller pieces for Tiny Ass Art Gallery, I’m transforming my reclaimed wood into abstract wood landscapes, inspired by some of the places I love most.

I’m having so much fun seeing where this new direction takes me and I’m just getting started!

What do you see?

“Morning on the Coast” feels like a meeting between where I got my start and where my art has is headed now. I took a chance with the angles and the colours and really wanted that soft coastal sunrise to almost feel hidden, like a little surprise! I’d love to know what you think of this one. 😊

One of the most asked questions I get about my art process is “How long did it take you to make this?”, and honestly I never know how to answer that.

To say the least, creating art from reclaimed materials is a very time consuming process. But I’ve realized that trying to keep track of the time it takes to create a piece just adds more work and kind of takes the fun out of it!

So I’ll just say, it takes hours, days and sometimes weeks but when I finish a piece, I still get that feeling of excitement when I can say to myself “Wow, I made that”! This is one of those pieces.

I’ll be honest, I’ve always been a little uncomfortable with a lot of colour. Give me blues, turquoise, soft neutrals and whites and I’m perfectly happy.

But lately something has shifted and I’ve been tip toeing out of that comfort zone into colours that just feel happy.

I’m still figuring out how I feel about using bright colours but maybe that’s the point. Maybe not every piece has to feel completely comfortable when I create it. Maybe it’s okay to create something that scares me a little but might just make someone else feel joy.

These three are part of that experiment and they have just landed Tiny Ass Art Gallery today! They really need to be seen in person to appreciate not only the colour but the depth and texture that has been created with reclaimed wood!

Now I need your opinion: which one would you pick?

1. The serenity of the mountain sky
2. The bright coastal blues
3. The pink and pastel sky

And be honest… am I finally getting over my fear of colour or should I stick with the neutrals?

I love sharing how my art comes to life!

I was lucky to be able to recreate this special piece after a client bought the original, that I created for Tiny Ass Art Gallery, and ended up giving it to a visiting friend.

The sunsets in Puerto Vallarta never disappoint and I always knew I would eventually create something inspired not only by the stunning sunset skies, but also the calming colours of the beach rocks that I love.

Early morning walks along the Malecón in Puerto Vallarta are graced by these peaceful stacks of rounded beach stones that appear to defy gravity.

I think it may be time to create one for myself!

I love to draw inspiration from moments I’ve captured through my own lens or my own experiences. A photograph not only becomes a memory and a feeling, but can eventually a transform into a special piece of art.

“Before the Storm” and “After the Storm” is now available on my website!

These pieces were Inspired by our unpredictable, Canadian summer days at the lake, those dramatic storms that roll in after a sunny day on the beach and the peaceful, pastel skies that shine after the storm passes.
