Another happy client — and another dining room becoming more personal, one special piece at a time. ✨

When I first came on board, my clients had already purchased their dining chairs. Unfortunately, one had broken, and they weren’t in love with the quality or overall look of the set.

Rather than replacing everything at once, we introduced two custom Host & Hostess chairs, designed by me and handcrafted locally in Canada from solid natural maple. 🇨🇦

The tropical fabric completely changed the feeling around the table. My clients absolutely love them — the colour, craftsmanship and personality bring such a breath of fresh air to the room and have already become beautiful conversation pieces when family and friends gather.

Eventually, they plan to replace the remaining chairs with custom pieces as well, but there is no rush. I love helping my clients improve their homes at their own pace, investing in pieces they truly love rather than changing everything simply for the sake of changing it.

And we’re not finished! The next transformation is already underway: new custom window treatments are coming next month to replace the dated treatments that came with the home. We are all excited to see this dining room continue to evolve.

Wait until I show you the rest. 🤍

Tile & Finish Selection Day in Etobicoke

Today I visited AVRA Tile in Etobicoke, exploring beautiful tile, stone and mosaic options for upcoming client projects. There are so many choices available, but selecting the right finishes — and making sure they all work beautifully together — is where professional design guidance can make such a difference.

If you’re renovating, building or simply refreshing your home, office, cottage or investment property, I can help you confidently select the right tile, flooring, cabinetry, countertops, paint colours, lighting, plumbing fixtures, furniture and finishing details to create a cohesive space that feels considered from beginning to end.

As an Etobicoke interior designer, decorator and home stylist, I work with clients from the early planning and pre-build selection stages right through to the final decorative details.

Serving Etobicoke, The Kingsway, Old Mill, Bloor West Village, Humber Valley, Sunnylea, Islington, Six Points and surrounding Toronto & GTA communities.

The Kingsway is one of Etobicoke’s most beautiful and established neighbourhoods, and I’m always grateful when I have the opportunity to work close to home. 🤍

It has been such a pleasure helping this wonderful family make thoughtful updates to their home. For this phase, we selected and incorporated a few new furniture pieces to better suit their lifestyle today. Great design doesn’t always require a full renovation; sometimes the right additions make all the beautiful difference.

As families grow and life evolves, our homes should evolve with us. I look forward to continuing to help them on an as needed basis, ensuring their space remains beautiful, functional, and perfectly suited to each new chapter within their home.

Seeing my AVA INTERIOR DESIGN sign on a lawn in The Kingsway is always a proud moment. Thank you to my clients for trusting me with your home.

Are you in Etobicoke, The Kingsway, Old Mill, Sunnylea, Lampton Mills, Thomas Orchard, Six Points,
Bloor West Village, Swansea, Mimico, Long Branch or the surrounding neighbourhoods? If your home no longer reflects the way you live today, I’d love to help you refresh it.

📞 Call or send me a message to book a formal design consultation and begin creating a home that truly works for this stage of your life.

Returning to Europe: Bringing Home Timeless Design

There is something about Europe that continues to call me back.

Each visit feels familiar, inspiring, and deeply rooted in something that has always been part of me. My parents were born in Poland and met in Canada. Whenever I travel through neighbouring countries and islands beyond, I feel an undeniable sense of connection as though I am revisiting pieces of history while discovering something entirely new at the same time.

Recently, I visited Spain and Portugal and once again I was reminded why these experiences shape not only who I am personally, but also how I approach design and decor.

The architecture was intricate and patient. The buildings created with intention, where every carved detail and weathered stone seemed to tell a story. There was an appreciation for craftsmanship that cannot be rushed. Chiseled stone softened by time. Streets lined with textures and materials that have aged with grace.

The fabrics moved naturally with the landscape. Linens flowing in the breeze, organic textures layered with ease, and interiors that felt effortless yet thoughtfully composed. The colours felt borrowed directly from nature itself. Fields of homegrown crops, endless blooms, sun-washed earth, ocean blues, and warm tones reflecting generations of culture and place.

What strikes me most each time I travel is that beauty is rarely accidental.

It lives in the details.

It appears in the curve of a doorway, the hand-finished plaster, the local stone, the woven textile, the proportion of a room, and the way people create spaces that invite connection and slow living.

And then there are the people.

Kind. Cultured. Proud of their history while continuing to create for tomorrow.

Every step, every corner, every village and city feels layered with stories. Stories of long before and stories still waiting to be written.

These moments never stay behind when I return home.

They become woven into my work.

As an interior and exterior design consultant, I carry these experiences into the homes and spaces I help create. I believe beautiful spaces should feel collected rather than rushed, timeless rather than temporary, and deeply connected to the people who live within them.

My goal is never simply to design a space that looks beautiful today.

It is to create spaces filled with beauty, function, warmth, and thoughtful details that stand the test of time. I create spaces that can be lived in, loved, and enjoyed for generations to come.

Travel reminds me that great design is not about following trends.

It is about creating something meaningful enough to last.

And for that reason, I know Europe will always continue to inspire me.

There is something especially rewarding about helping a builder create a home for his own family.

We are currently at the framing stage, and this is the critical moment where final plumbing locations, room layouts, and everyday functionality need to be confirmed. With a few last minute layout changes, it truly becomes a “now or never” opportunity to get things right before the walls are closed in.

I’m grateful that I was brought in to review the plans and help work through a few details that had been causing concern. Together, we found practical solutions that improved both the function and flow of the home, giving my client greater confidence moving forward. My sign went up today.

Custom home building comes with countless decisions, and my role is to help simplify the process, identify opportunities, and ensure your home works beautifully for the way you live.

Honoured to be trusted with this important project and excited to continue helping bring this family’s dream home to life.

Thank you for the opportunity. 🙏🏻

Always a pleasure meeting with my clients during early morning on-site check-in days. Framing is now complete, and today we finalized the electrical and plumbing locations on site, along with confirming the gas fireplace placement. More exciting details to come!

Thoughtful pre-planning before drywall goes up can make all the difference in the beauty, function, and flow of your home. Love your space. Contact me directly if you would like a professional eye to help guide your selections and layout decisions before the next stage begins.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful mothers and mother figures. 🤍🌸

Today, my heart is especially full of gratitude for my two sons, Vincenzo and Andrzej. When my first son was born in 2005, I opened my own business so I could be present for the moments that mattered most as they grew up. What began as a dream of balancing motherhood and creativity became AVA INTERIOR DESIGN a company built not only from passion, but from love.

Many people do not know that the initials “AVA” were inspired by our initials: Ania, Vincenzo and Andrzej. From the very beginning, my boys have been part of this journey. Over the years, they have become my greatest supporters, my honest critics, my encouragement, and even my little marketing team behind the scenes. I am so grateful for all of their help, love and belief in me that helped shape my company into what it is today.

Today I simply want to remind them how deeply I cherish and love them. Being your mother will always be my greatest blessing and proudest accomplishment.

Thank you, my sons. 🤍

Love always,
Mama / Ania

Client Review 🩵

We have had the pleasure of using Ania Maternicki for many years to design, consult, decorate and to assist with purchasing everything from furniture, drapery, lighting, millwork, artwork, custom rugs, accessories, etc…
Ania, has created a magazine worthy home for my wife and I and we are eternally grateful for her time and her attention to every little detail, no matter how big or how small. She has made a normally overwhelming process quite manageable for us and we would highly recommend AVA INTERIOR DESIGN to anyone in need of design services.
