I’ve dreamt of a collection of items for the home and for childhood. Easy everyday wares that are meant to be used and cherished. I’m enjoying the creative process. The selection of fabric. The layout of the design. I have happily fussed over this bunting for days and feel that it is now just right. I hope that fussing over items is everlasting with this new storey of mine. After all, the whole reason I started this was to create fantastical things that are never duplicated and forever unique.

Phelan & Fern’s collections for childhood are carefully thought out and crafted. Soft, almost forgotten textiles paired with beautiful cottons of today make up our collections that offer an invitation for quiet play. As I slowly design and stitch these wonderful heirlooms, I am filled with the playful days of my youth with my sisters and cousins in tow and what joy similar items brought to us. I had the opportunity to chat with some friends about this new journey of mine and it brought me such joy and peace.

From the ease that I felt while offering answers, to their expressions and reactions to what I have planned. It all felt so natural. So right.

I thought I’d include some of the discussions here for you all to read up on and if you want to know more, please don’t hesitate to ask.

The name. PHELAN is my maternal Grandmother’s maiden name. If I would have brought a wee lady into this world, Phelan would have been her given name. FERN is my favourite house and outdoor plant. I love watching the sun shine through their fronds and photographing them in all of their amazing stages.
Placing the two together gave me the warm and fuzzies that I was searching for when the day dreaming about these products came to mind.

It is no secret that I am a day dreamer. I love slow mornings, linen fabric and all things vintage. I believe that I was meant to bring what once was, back for us to live by and enjoy. I care about reusing and recycling items. From what I thrift as we renovate and decorate our Victorian era home, to some of the fabrics that I’m creating within this line. Phelan & Fern is exactly how I want to celebrate the beauty of all I mentioned here in a line of items for childhood and another for home. All made in a quiet, intentional way.
