Big thanks to Joe Milligan for commissioning this painting from his stunning photograph of Amisk Lake. This one was so much fun to paint - finding all the colours and shapes within the rock face and dancing with the reflections in the water. I hope it brings a sense of peace and joy for years to come!

“Outstanding in Your Field”

This picture is near and dear to my heart because it brings back memories of last year’s plein air painting course in Cypress Hills with Nikki Jacquin . We were on the way to the great sand hills and along the road, this amazing little barn with some photogenic cows appeared! Nikki pulled over and we were able to get some beautiful photos. I’ve been excited to paint this ever since!

Thanks to my amazing friends for helping me get back into the art room after over a month with no painting (very preoccupied with our new pupper, Fisher). And thanks to my friend, Sarah, for the painting title recommendation - it’s perfect!

Ok, I tried doing some colour corrections on a painting from last summer. The foreground shrubberies really bothered me, so I went over them with some blue green colours to add more contrast. Now I can’t tell if I liked the before version (yellow green) or the new colours. Please share your thoughts: Which works better in the right side foreground?

What an awesome weekend at The Station Arts Centre with the legendary Cam Forester for his En Plein Air: Architectural Painting class!

We started Friday with a class session about one and two-point perspectives, had a delicious dinner at Twinses, then walked through the town to find some excellent buildings to paint and watch Cam demonstrate his process on the charming post office building. After that, we spent some time sketching around the town.

The next morning, it was go-time! I was drawn to a really interesting building - the back of the bowling alley, and set up shop for the day behind a dumpster. After a solid day of painting, we all met up back at the Station and got to see each other’s work. Wow, what an incredible group of artists! It is inspirational to see everyone rocking their own styles, mediums, and perspectives! It was wonderful to meet so many friendly, talented, and passionate artists! Feeling very grateful!
