What an awesome weekend at The Station Arts Centre with the legendary Cam Forester for his En Plein Air: Architectural Painting class!

We started Friday with a class session about one and two-point perspectives, had a delicious dinner at Twinses, then walked through the town to find some excellent buildings to paint and watch Cam demonstrate his process on the charming post office building. After that, we spent some time sketching around the town.

The next morning, it was go-time! I was drawn to a really interesting building - the back of the bowling alley, and set up shop for the day behind a dumpster. After a solid day of painting, we all met up back at the Station and got to see each other’s work. Wow, what an incredible group of artists! It is inspirational to see everyone rocking their own styles, mediums, and perspectives! It was wonderful to meet so many friendly, talented, and passionate artists! Feeling very grateful!

“Puppy Dreams”

It’s been two years since saying goodbye to my sweet Yoshi. While we had a ton of adventures together, we also had many quiet and peaceful times. He would often fall asleep on my legs, under coffee tables, or hiding in my clothes in the closet. It was always special to hear his little muffled barks when he had a puppy dream - probably chasing gophers. I miss you, my boy and will love you forever. 💙💙💙

“Sundog on the Prairies”

What a way to kick off 2026 - got to spend the day painting! My mom recently took this stunning picture from her new place and was kind enough to let me turn it into a painting. I was really drawn to the moody shadows in the snow. The symmetry in the sky and catching the brightness of the sun was quite challenging and I had to wrestle with it quite a bit near the end. But we got there! Now time for bed. Wishing you a happy new year!

Thanks so much for following along with my art journey this year! It was fun to do more painting outside and really dig in to some Saskatchewan landscapes. I also enjoyed testing out some new portraiture techniques and will continue to build on them. Here are a few favourites from the year. So grateful to get to spend life with Adam and find joy in all the simple things together. This is one of my favourite pictures of him and it filled my heart seeing his face emerge on the canvas. ❤️

“Rest Well”

This time last year, I was drawn to a moody sky poking through dormant trees on our driveway and knew it had to be painted. It was fun working with a more subdued colour palette trying to catch the feel of the season.

“Mean Jean”
12”x12” oil on canvas

It was time for a new self portrait and this one was a series of happy accidents. I have been messing around with assigning new colours to greyscale reference photos and wanted to build a palette that hit 10 values while also building bridges between primary colours. Initially, I was planning on painting the entire canvas, but after I laid out the darks in the hair, I heard the voice of in my head telling me to keep the magenta. So I started being very careful with where I placed paint, trying to gradually fade out to the magenta as you move farther from my face. Anyway, it turned out pretty cool and was a great way to spend a Sunday!
