✨ S E L L E R T I P S : STAGING VINTAGE PHOTOS with ✨ The coolest part about vintage & antiques is the amazing community that surrounds it. We’re reaching out to some of the expert sellers to share their tips! First up is the queen of gorgeous styled photography, Bridget of . She started her business in 2018 and is based in Halifax, NS. She’s a sucker for all things ‘80s and dreams of living in a Golden Girls episode. ⁣

Here are her top tips for taking beautiful photos of vintage pieces!⁣

1️⃣ “Quality photos don’t have to equal fancy gear. I shoot on my iPhone using natural light and handmade or thrifted props. Some great (cheap!) props I love are white poster boards from the dollar store used to reflect natural light, thrifting tablecloths and sheets to use as backdrops, and grabbing things I already own like cute jewelry, accessories and plants.”⁣

2️⃣ “Keep it simple. You can never go wrong with a bright, clean, straight-on image - natural daylight is your best friend! I usually veer towards a less-is-more approach and shoot things against a blank wall in my apartment.”⁣

3️⃣ “Add levels to give interest. If I’m shooting items against a fabric backdrop I’ll often place boxes/crates/books underneath to add physical levels to the photo. For larger items I like to use this same technique with pillars.”⁣

4️⃣ “If I notice myself collecting pieces in a similar colour or style I try to always come up with a way to shoot them together in a visually appealing way. Pairing like-colours and styles together when staging is an easy way to make your shot look cohesive.”

✨ M E E T the S E L L E R ✨ Krista of has been selling her vintage finds since 2016. Based in Glace Bay, she also just so happens to be from where our very own grew up. Get to know a bit more about the gal behind the treasures & peek into her vintage-inspired home! ➡️⁣

About her business:⁣
“It’s like rediscovering a favourite recipe from your grandmother's kitchen. With a special focus on matching function with aesthetic, Cellary combines a love of cooking, baking, and kitchenware with an appreciation of 20th century history and vintage charm.”⁣

Her fave local shop?⁣
“ has the most amazing corner of stores, but my personal favourite is Clair's Classics. I've heard it affectionately referred to as ‘junktiques’ since there are so many piles to sort through to unearth the real gems. It's a treasure hunter's dream.”⁣

What Krista loves most about vintage:⁣
“Rediscovering beautiful objects from the past that have been long forgotten. Customers love the nostalgia of a familiar piece from their past. I adore helping them recreate their family memories or providing the missing item from a special set.”⁣

When shopping, she’s always on the lookout for:⁣
“Pyrex - I love to piece together full sets of Cinderella bowls and casserole dishes for happy collectors. I love it all but I limit my personal collection to the JAJ Made in England Black Snowflake pattern. It's tough to find though. If you stumble across any, tag me!”⁣

Her favourite find of all time: ⁣
“I found an antique cross stitch at a Goodwill in rural Maryland, US. I would guess it's at least 100 years old, if not older. The fabric is worn, the stitches are rough, and the maker ran out of thread half way (replacing it with a different shade) but it features the sweetest poem and was obviously made with care. As far as I'm concerned, it's irreplaceable’.”⁣

Last, but not least:⁣
“I share tips & behind the scenes on . Also, different treasures are listed at  & Etsy, so be sure to check both often.”

✨ M E E T the S E L L E R ✨ Karly of started selling vintage online in April 2019, and is opening her NEW storefront in Halifax tomorrow at 2055 North Park St, across from the Halifax Commons. Her shop lives in the easily recognizable pink and blue historic house built in the late 1800s. Fun fact: It survived the Halifax Explosion!⁣

About her shop:⁣
“Florence was my grandmother’s name. This small business named after her began as a fun hobby and quickly grew into my full-time job. Our collection includes vintage home décor, housewares, clothing, artwork and accessories.⁣

Her favourite local vintage shop?⁣
“Hand in Hand on Herring Cove Road. It is a community thrift shop that has a great mix of clothing and home décor pieces at fair prices. They even have a curated vintage section!”⁣

What she loves about selling vintage:⁣
“Finding pieces that you know your customers are going to go crazy for. You know the feeling you get when someone opens a gift you picked out for them? That’s the feeling I get when I source. I try to connect the pieces I bring into the shop with the styles of my customers. So when I find something I know they are going to love, it makes me very happy to be able to source it for them!”⁣

She’s always on the hunt for:⁣
What are you always on the hunt for? ⁣
“Brass, solid wood, pastel colours, rattan, and bamboo. My favourite vintage clothing brands to thrift are Braemar, Levi’s, and Tommy Hilfiger.”⁣

Her favourite find of all time:⁣
“When I first started, I saw this 1980s swivel coffee table on a page in Toronto () and fell in love. A few months later, I found an identical one at . The worker still had it in his arms on his way to put it on the floor when I spotted it. I styled it in my apartment for a long time before parting with it.”⁣

Be sure to stop into Florence’s Collection GRAND OPENING tomorrow 10AM - 7PM! 💕 @ North End, Halifax

✨ M E E T the S E L L E R ✨ Rachel of in Bedford, NS started selling her vintage wares in 2013. After taking a 3-year hiatus, she’s BACK and loving it more than ever. ⁣

A little about her business:⁣
“I’ve grown up thrifting and I have such a passion for home decorating so I figured why not join the two and show people that you can make your home look stylish on a budget! I love to mix modern and vintage items in my home. I also think there is so many beautiful pieces that can be over looked so being able to help stage the items so people can really get an idea of what it would look like in their home makes it fun!”⁣

What she loves most about vintage shopping:⁣
“Definitely the thrill of the hunt! It’s so exciting because you never know what you might come across! I also love to see the treasures being loved and giving them a new life!”⁣

She’s always on the hunt for:⁣
“Anything pretty or floral, I definitely love girly items, anything pink! I also love looking for beautiful mirrors, brass and wicker pieces. They are very popular these days!”⁣

Her favourite find of all time?⁣
“Its hard to choose just one I have so many! However I found this beautiful side board all stripped down raw, It was a project someone had started and I was ready to finish! I have had it for 10 years now and it’s just a piece that is so special to me.”⁣ @ Bedford, Nova Scotia

✨ A N T I Q U E N D : Great Village & Truro, NS ✨ With tourism season looking non-existent this year, we’re excited to explore our own province and support local businesses along the way. This weekend, we adventured to Great Village & Truro - home to our faaaavourite local shop, plus a new one we’ve finally checked off our list. 💙 ⁣

First of all, go prepared - in the Nova Scotia summers, air conditioning is not a thing and the shop’s top floors can get HOT. Bring a fan & water!⁣

☕️ Wayside Café • Right across the street from Great Village Antiques, your stop for coffee and treats (post-July 1st, when they officially open!)⁣

🛍 • Home to over 30 vintage vendors, there are TONS of treasures to discover across several rooms + even more upstairs. Great prices, and plenty of variety!⁣

🛍 Right beside Great Village Antiques is an unnamed shop that’s home to more vintage sellers, with both floors full of furniture, advertising, and so much more. The upstairs has some super cool oddities!⁣

🛍 Across the street, you’ll find the Onslow Trading Co. shop - it’s jam-packed with more vintage stuff both inside and outside. Careful on those stairs to the attic - the upstairs requires a dedicated hunter who’s not turned off by dust and piles!⁣

🍽 By now you’ll probably be hangry, and unless you want your lunch to be a freezie from the Esso down the street, hit the road and head for Truro. Stop into and do 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 sleep on that Caprese Burger. ⁣

🍻 Right beside Nook & Cranny is where you can enjoy a pint on the patio!⁣

🛍 Now that you’re re-energized, head to Reclaimed Cottage (280 Prince St) where you’ll find aisles of furniture, mirrors, frames and more! @ Truro, Nova Scotia
