Books I’ve read lately (and loved!)

I’ve been having a pretty good time this summer reconnecting to my love of reading fiction (especially thrillers!).

April is both autism awareness month & s3xual assault awareness month. Let’s talk about that intersection!

S3xual violence is a huge problem globally, and yes, here in “the west” too. While anyone can be a victim of s3xual violence, it is a notably gendered crime. The vast majority of victims are women and girls. This is true globally. An even higher majority of assailants are men.

What are the stats for the general population?
- 90% of victims are girls and women
- 98% of perpetrators are men, including when victims are boys and men
- 30% of women and girls are victims of s3xual violence in their lifetime (1 in 3!)

What are the stats for autistic girls and women?
When considering disabled girls and women, already high numbers jump substantially.
- 83% of disabled women and girls are victims of s3xual violence in their lifetime (more than 8 in 10)
When considering autism specifically, this number is, somehow, even higher.
- 90% of autistic women and girls are victims of s3xual violence in their lifetime. (
9 in 10—three times that of the general population)

90% of autistic girls and women… That’s most of us. That’s nearly all of us. That’s me. If that’s you too, you are not alone
