3rd Story Workshop

3rd Story Workshop Designer and quilter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Andrea Tsang Jackson is a designer and quilter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Like many modern quilters, her first encounter with quilting came when she was expecting her first child in 2011. Since then, she has been trying to find her voice through this textile artform. Quilting has become the medium through which she can explore her interests in material, geometry and place. Her background in architecture has allowed her to understand design process from a variety of appr

oaches; her training in life has taught her about the beauty in mess.

3rd Story Workshop is Andrea's tiny sanctuary where she feels the freedom to try new things, play with the ideas that float around in her mind, and think with a clear head. Although her favourite colours to wear and design with are rather neutral, she loves to play with colour in her studio.

Thanks to all who came out with last week to open Out of Bounds with us! The exhibition is up on the 5th floor of the Halifax Central Library until June 27.

These shoes were a fabulous intro to quilted 3D forms. I really took my time using .ca and patterns and templates to make the shoe that I really wanted. The fabric is a set of gel plate misprints using lace (see my stories for a video on that!).

Collective Power is one of the unique things about our craft. I wanted to include a group quilt in my Quilting book — a chance to create something together while appealing to a range of preferences and existing stashes. “House” allows for traditional piecing, foundation paper piecing, and improv. It’s also an opportunity to share skills amongst a group. That’s our superpower as quilters, no?
