Take a moment to enjoy this prayer-poem by Ted Loder.

May it echo in your heart this day.

.
For the record, I am not against Advent calendars.

What I struggle with is the co-opting of a sacred season into yet another opportunity for consumerism and capitalism, the gods of our culture.

Christmas and Easter were co-opted long ago… but Advent? 🙄

And check out the last picture - I nearly lost it - an “Advent Calendar” counting down to Halloween?!?! 🎃😳

And then sometimes, amidst the hard and the fatigue and the sorrows of life, joy surprises us.

Thankful for unexpected moments when joy creeps up, taps us on the shoulder, and we bask in its warmth for a while.

Many of us are feeling worn thin after living these past few weeks. Tired.
Very tired.

Take a moment to rest with God and offer this breath prayer, reminding us that although the mountains may crumble and fall, the waters are up to our necks, that we are always held by God’s grace and love.

The situation you are desperately praying for?
Held by the hands of God.

The person you are worried about?
Held by the hands of God.

Your concerned heart?
Held by the hands of God.

Blessings, friends.

How can we not be tired? Have you seen the pace this world expects us to keep?

There’s always something to do, someone who needs us, something we’ve forgotten, something we’re worrying about, and even when we finally stop, our minds don’t always get the memo.

Then somehow we feel guilty for being tired too, like we should be coping better, showing up for people more, trusting more, getting more done.

But , isn’t it beautiful that Jesus simply says, come to Me.

Come tired. Come with the thoughts going around in circles. Come with the thing you think is too small to bother Him with. Tell Him anyway, tell Him everything.

Because He never asked you to get yourself together before you came close.

He said come, and that’s where you’ll find rest. ❤️

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” -Matthew 11:28

Some days are just… tired days.
After weeks of carrying all the things we carry, sometimes our minds or our bodies say “enough”. You need rest.

Ordinarily I struggle with silence and the idea of a time of silence seems daunting. But this morning, it was exactly the prayer practice that I needed.

This morning the word I chose to dwell with was “peace”. As I sat, I found myself embracing peace and enjoying silence. But the next thing was unexpected… I actually began to offer the peace of Christ to others. As people came to mind I would send peace over them. And then even an enemy came to mind… and I was able to extend peace to them.

“Pray for your enemies…” Jesus said. I’ve always struggled with that! How, Lord?!?!

This morning, not through any of my own effort, the Spirit showed me. It came unbidden, and it came while practicing silence.

Honestly, God is so good!

And for those who are curious about centering prayer, or practicing silence as a prayer practice, this app has helped me.

Blessings, friends!

It was brief.

Not many words…. just feelings…

Today I am praying these words from St Patrick over many people in my circles who are in great need today. Although the rosary is not part of my Protestant faith tradition it was a beautiful gift to me from a dear friend and mentor and I treasure it. Especially on days like today when the needs are great, and my words are few.

Perhaps these words from a saint from long ago may help you today.

Or, if you wish to add a 🙏 in the comments below I will add you to the prayers of my heart as I recite these powerful words.
