We are currently working with a new group of artisans for a new collection, they come from Arequipa, a charming province in Southern Peru, often considered the heart of the country’s textile tradition.
It’s a place where beautiful craftsmanship meets the wonders of nature!
For centuries, talented artisans have been weaving soft alpaca wool into stunning textiles, keeping alive the techniques passed down through generations. With the breathtaking backdrop of towering volcanoes—Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu—this city is full of life and spirit.
Misti Volcano, in particular, holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Arequipa. It has been seen as a sacred apu (or protective mountain spirit) since ancient times, revered by the Inca and pre-Inca cultures. The locals believe that Misti watches over them, bringing protection and prosperity to the city.
The slopes of Misti have revealed fascinating archaeological finds, like Inca offerings and even human sacrifices, giving us a peek into its rich history of rituals aimed at pleasing the gods and living in harmony with the surroundings. Today, Misti is still a powerful symbol of Arequipeño identity, representing both the city's resilience and its deep-rooted connection to the land.
What a wonderful blend of tradition and nature!
