Our Story

(Contact me by p.m. or call 709-583*2443 for appointment to private viewing at my home). Hi, I’m Eileen Balsom Matthews, I live and paint in New Perlican on the beautiful Baccalieu Trail. I grew up in historic Heart's Content in a fishing and boat building family of many generations. After a long and successful banking career we retired to my husband William’s hometown where I found the desire to paint. New Perlican has a sheltered harbour with 20 plus colorful stages, the most beautiful place in NL; I began painting the stages on slate. Now I do varied and custom work on glass, slate, rock, wood & canvas. I am mostly self-taught, I participate in workshops/ classes with various Newfoundland artists and on-line. I am totally inspired by the colorful surroundings; my canvases tend to be mostly outport scenes.

My artwork is sold from my website www.nerrlhandpainteddesigns.ca and my FB page; items can be packaged and shipped; order from this FB page by etsf; shipping extra or order on line and shipping will be indicated there. My artwork is in many of the Arts/Crafts stores on the Avalon Pennisula and in Trinity.

I was recently appointed as an Ambassador with NLOWE (Nfld & Labrador organization for Women Entrepreneurs); I am a member of Legendary Coasts Tourism association, Craft Council NL, Citizen of Craft, Board member Baccalieu Trail Heritage Corp.; Vice Chairperson, Heritage New Perlican; Member of Mizzen Heritage Society, Heart's Content Treasurer, Heart’s Content Community Development Corporation and various other volunteer activities in my area. In 2017, I received the Federal Government Award for “Making a Difference” from Honourable Judy Foote, the then Member of Parliament.
