I was inspired to create a Bolsa Wayuu on my trip to Colombia this past Christmas when I realized they were made using crochet. It has been my most time-consuming and challenging project to date, taking me more than four months (on and off) to complete. If you can believe it, the base and strap were the most complicated sections. In fact, I even gave up on my first strap half-way through, and began anew with a more time-effective pattern.
I absolutely adore how it came out, and I cannot wait to wear it out this summer! Thank you to my grandpa for the yarns, the colours go great together!!
You may be wondering where the name comes from...It is tied to the Wayuu people who have lived in the Guajira Peninsula for centuries. They weave these bags by hand using natural fibres as a way to tell their stories, values, and beliefs. Each mochila carries more than just a functional purpose, but rather holds deep meaning and helps to preserve their culture. π β€οΈ π¨π΄
