Spirit of Country
This piece draws inspiration from Aboriginal storytelling traditions, where colour is used not only for beauty but also to convey a connection to Country, community, and spirit. The vibrant village rises from the landscape as a symbol of belonging, with each colour carrying its own meaning and contributing to the story of the whole.
The red homes represent the earth and the life force that flows through the land. In many Aboriginal artworks, red ochre symbolizes the deep connection between people and Country, reflecting strength, ancestry, and the enduring presence of those who came before.
The yellow and golden tones evoke the sun, a source of energy, warmth, and renewal. They speak to growth, knowledge, and the passing of wisdom from one generation to the next.
The blue homes reflect water and sky—the essential elements that sustain life. They symbolize healing, continuity, and the spiritual pathways that connect communities across vast landscapes.
The green structures represent the living land, growth, and harmony with nature. They remind us of the responsibility to care for Country and maintain balance with the environment.
The white homes signify spirit, clarity, and the gathering of people. They create spaces of reflection and connection, representing the shared stories that unite a community.
The dramatic sunset sky, transitioning from warm earth tones to deep blue, reflects the cycle of life and the meeting place between the physical and spiritual worlds. The natural driftwood elements weave throughout the piece like pathways, rivers, or songlines, linking each home and reminding us that every journey is connected.
Together, these colours tell a story of community, belonging, and respect for the land—a celebration of the relationships that bind people, nature, and spirit across generations.
