We’re proud to share that Maison Cordoba has been named a finalist in the 2026 Greater Ottawa Home Builders' Association Housing Design Awards in the Custom Kitchen (201–250 sq. ft.) – Traditional category.
Our client, a successful Arabian chef, envisioned a Mediterranean-inspired home where cooking, gathering and family life could unfold naturally. For the kitchen, the vision was to move away from modern utilitarian design and create a space that felt less like a kitchen and more like another room in the home.
Bringing that vision to life required a complete rethinking of the existing layout. The powder room was relocated, the laundry moved to the basement, and the newly freed space became a dedicated scullery connected to the kitchen through a graceful arched doorway. Most major appliances were tucked away in the scullery, keeping everyday mess and noise out of sight while allowing the main kitchen to remain warm, welcoming and ready for entertaining.
In the kitchen, a custom plaster range hood and gas range create an architectural focal point, while Arabascato Violet marble, warm oak cabinetry and living brass bring depth, character and a sense of heritage to the space. Decorative pendants and wall sconces provide the primary illumination, creating a softer atmosphere than traditional overhead pot lighting.
Every detail was designed around the way our client cooks, gathers and lives, from meticulously planned cabinetry to the expanded backyard window that floods the room with natural light.
The result is a kitchen rooted in tradition, designed for today, and intended to evolve beautifully with time.
We’ll find out how Maison Cordoba places at the 43rd GOHBA Housing Design Awards Gala on November 7.
Stay tuned!
