Another beautiful Tuesday morning at the Renfrew Community Garden 🌱🥕🍅
This is my third year volunteering here, helping grow and harvest fresh produce for our local Food Bank, and it continues to be one of the most rewarding ways for me to give back to our community.
Our mornings start early — often around 6:30, rain or shine. We harvest, wash, sort and carefully pack everything so that it arrives at the Food Bank fresh, clean and beautiful. There is something very special about picking a ripe tomato or a beautiful head of lettuce and knowing that later that day, or the next, someone in our community will take it home and enjoy it.
Having many years of farming experience, I feel very much at home in the garden. I’m usually constantly on the move — harvesting, washing, sorting, packing, carrying boxes to the vehicles — which probably explains why I rarely make it into our team photos or videos! 😊 But I’m always somewhere nearby, happily doing what I love.
I especially loved seeing this photo from Tuesday. I may not be in the picture, but many of those beautiful boxes of tomatoes, lettuce, carrots and other vegetables passed through my hands on their way from the garden to the vehicle. And, of course, they are the result of the work and care of our wonderful team.
Seeing everything together — so fresh, colourful and carefully prepared — makes all those early mornings worthwhile.
❤️ It’s a wonderful feeling to know that something we grew and picked with our own hands will soon be on someone’s table.
