What a productive few days of great weather! The guys shored up a wall in the smithy and replaced sill plates. New fence posts are going in. We removed a tree near the road to make room for a new power pole. Kitchen equipment started arriving! Spring has sprung!

Here's a flashback to a metalworking class we taught in 2024 at Artfire in Leslie, Michigan, where we utilized the pillow technique to create sunflowers. This technique involves expanding hot metal with compressed air. 🌻

Our shop/barn cafe project is moving forward! We've begun working on off-street parking, which will also include a park-like area with a kayak launch and benches for wildlife viewing. Bill and I will be crafting the benches from reclaimed maritime metal.

An opportunity presented itself for Payne Anne to mentor Hayden, a student from Shelburne High School here in Nova Scotia. The high school doesn't have a metals lab, and Shelburne Ship Repair has generously made a space available for her to practice. Everyone there has been so supportive of her choice to follow a career in welding and fabrication. It's been a joy to help her prepare for her skills competition for the Nova Scotia region. If she places in the regionals, she'll go to nationals for the final competition.

Payne Anne has been volunteering at Shelburne Regional High School here in Nova Scotia as a welding mentor for a young lady. The high school doesn't have a metals lab, so they have been practicing at Shelburne Ship Repair. Hayden is practicing for the regional finals; if she places, she'll go to the nationals.

It's official! We have started a new project in Nova Scotia! Something thats just for us and not a co-op. This outstanding 1780s Loyalist-era barn is three stories of possibilities! It has plenty of room for a small smithy/shop, bakery and coffee house! Happy new year!

We are so excited to announce that Object Afterlife has officially found its new home in beautiful Shelburne, Nova Scotia! ⚓️

Moving here has given us a fresh perspective and a new wave of inspiration. We’re still dedicated to reclaiming pieces and giving them a second life—only now, we’re doing it with a little salt in the air and a lot of coastal heart.

To our long-time followers: thank you for coming on this journey with us. To our new neighbors in Shelburne: we can’t wait to meet you!
