The progression of natural colours reacting with oxygen is so neat! It’s always a little bit different when each batch when working with plants as your source of colour, and these might change again as they cure.

This batch of lavender soap is coloured with alkanet infused oil. As an oil infusion it was a deep red-toned purple, once the lye was mixed with the oils to start the saponification process the batter was blue, then morphed to lilac. Once out of the soap mold and cut into bars the outer is a purple-blue and the inner portions a pinkish tan which was visible when the bars were first cut. 10 minutes later the exposure to air has morphed that colour so it is purple on all surfaces.
