Looking forward to this weekend, July 11-13. This show will always have a special place in my ❤️. Outdoor Art was my first ever arts and crafts show way back in 2005. I had just finished my second year at . Having attended the show a number of times beforehand, I knew the high caliber of work by many renowned professional artists/craftspeople that has/is on display at TOAE/TOAF. I was humbled and honoured to have the opportunity to display my not so great student work amongst them.

What was your first arts and crafts show?

Do you have any of these student pieces of mine??

bowls, bowls, and more bowls

Never really know what’s going to sell at an art and craft show. One form will be super popular at one show and then at another show not a single one will be purchased. After all these years of doing them, I have a decent sense of which pieces and how many might sell, but nothing is certain. I just try to make as many pots as I can. For whatever reason, people have been gravitating towards my bowls the past two shows. I spent the better part of last week making bowls to restock for this weekend. Hope to see you there! The forecast is looking great. Hot and sweaty in the concrete oven that is Nathan Phillips Square.

Totally forgot to post about this last Saturday after Guelph Art on the Street. I was exhausted by the time I got home from the show and this week past like a blur. I was focused on making more pots to restock for Toronto Outdoor Art Fair but most of the week was busy with life things

It was so wonderful to see such a large turnout for the show in spite of the sporadic downpours throughout the day.
Thank you very very much to everyone who purchased work or just stopped to say hi. I am grateful for your overwhelming support. I left the show a couple boxes of pottery lighter and with a full heart.

Thank you for putting on such a fantastic show. There were so many enthusiastic and helpful volunteers. All the wonderful musicians and street performers created such a vibe. Also, this is the first time at any art and craft show that I’ve had a reserved parking spot. You really know how to make artists feel like VIP’s. I am absolutely humbled and honoured that members of The Guelph Arts Council selected my work, out of all the amazingly talented artists and craftspeople participating at this year’s Art on the Street as Best in Show. Thank you. I greatly appreciate the recognition ❤️. So love that the award was handmade fused glass by as well.

Had a refreshing margarita and some delicious tacos to finish off my day in Guelph.

After graduating high school back in ‘99, I had been accepted to the fine arts program at the University of Guelph. Instead of attending, I took two years off to work and figure myself out. Who knows where I would have ended up if I had chosen the fine art route…

A throwback for
This weekend I was working on an application, sorting through images of some of my past work for it. These are from 2008. They are some of the first mugs I made when I resumed making my own work. After graduating from the Ceramics Program at Sheridan College in 2006, I spent 2 years working for .barnim.pottery. Being still relatively new to ceramics/pottery, this was such a phenomenal learning experience assisting Scott with his production. I know that wouldn’t be nearly as proficient of a thrower if I didn’t work for him. Many of the things I learned from Scott about production pottery and business I’ve incorporated into my own studio practice.

The mugs are made with 580 and have an added thrown footring. Masking tape resist for crackle slip stripes, green/blue celadon glazes.

I make my berry bowls in two sizes: small, 5.25” dia x 3.5” h, are perfect for a half pint of raspberries or blueberries; standard, 6.5” dia x 4.75” h are sized for strawberries, cherries, grapes.

While I was making my most recent batch of small berry bowls, I made an adjustment to their form. I changed the simple tapered exterior, adding a flared footring. I am much happier with the design of the piece overall with this slight tweak to the form. It gives the piece more character and it now better mirrors the form of the larger “standard” berry bowl.
