BTS- BUILDING MORE THAN BUILDINGS

For the past 30 years, I’ve built my career in the high rise residential industry-and it continues to be a big part of what I do today and what I love.

I sometimes think building a building is a lot like life.

You start with a plan and a vision.

Then comes the work- reviewing floor plans, finishes, collaborating with architects and designers, managing clients, budgets and target dates, and making sure communication stays clear between everyone involved.

And, just like life, things don’t always go according to plan.

Surprises happen. Problems appear on site. Decisions need to be made quickly. You adjust, find a solution and keep moving forward.

Then, little by little, you begin to see it all come together.

There is something rewarding about standing back and seeing a building and remembering everything-and EVERYONE-it took to get there. This is what I love the most.

The finished space is beautiful. But the journey behind is the real story.

The difference between expensive and well-designed.

They’re not the same thing — and most people can’t tell until they’re standing in the room.

You can spend $80K on finishes and still end up with a space that feels flat. You can spend a fraction of that and have a room that feels rich.

Expensive buys materials. Design buys judgment — knowing what to use, where, and how much.

Proportion is free. Restraint is a decision, not a budget line. And craftsmanship shows up in the details no one points out — you feel it before you can name it.

Save this before your next selection meeting. 🤍

Most people can’t tell luxury from ultra-luxury until you show them side by side.

Luxury chooses beautifully from what it exists. Ultra-luxury asks whether what exists is even the right question. The in-laid floor, the fluted marble face, the hidden caddy, the brass reveal, the built in cabinet-none of these happened by accident. They happened because someone was willing to detail past the point most people stop.

After 30 years on both side of this industry, this is the difference I look for first.

Labour Day weekend feels like the unofficial goodbye to summer. 🤍
I was scrolling through Pinterest and kept coming back to these beautiful Hamptons-inspired spaces.

Not quite my personal style, but there’s something so timeless and effortless about the coastal aesthetic. The natural textures, soft palette, and relaxed feel are undeniably beautiful.

Just a little end-of-summer inspiration. 🌊

After 30 years working as a consultant in Toronto luxury high-rise residential design and development, I’ve learned that expensive doesn’t always mean ultra-luxury.

The difference is in the details—bespoke design, customization, privacy and exceptional service.

In luxury, customization and exclusivity are features. In ultra-luxury, they are expectations.

This bathroom renovation was designed with a young lady’s aesthetic and lifestyle in mind — soft, feminine, pretty, and timeless, while still feeling elevated and beautifully crafted.
We removed the existing tub/shower combination and transformed the space into a large, comfortable walk-in shower, creating a more open and luxurious feel.

We also added a dedicated makeup vanity to give her a beautiful and functional space for all of her beauty needs. Every detail was thoughtfully selected to feel cohesive, from the soft finishes and elegant lighting to the beautiful stone and warm brass accents.

The goal was to create a space that felt soft and pretty, but never overly trendy — comfortable, functional, and made with quality in mind. 🤍

A bathroom designed specifically for her, and a space she can enjoy for years to come

Finally sharing a little corner of my home office. 🖤
These walls have kind of become a collection of things I like — architecture, photography, and a display wall of the projects I worked on all pieces mixed in.
I’m always moving things around and changing something, but I think that’s part of the fun of making a space your own.

One statement piece. Let one object do all the talking.
Mini Tip: Transparent + gold = luxury without the visual weight.

Elevate the functional. A game table in stone. Yes!
Mini Tip- Materials-tell people this isn’t an afterthought.

Curves, color, greenery, soft shapes, olives +palms is Calm Luxury.

After 30 years working behind the scenes in luxury residential design and development, I’ve learned a few things.

Beautiful interiors are only part of the story.

The real work happens between the client, the designer, the developer and construction — managing expectations, communicating the details and making sure what was promised can actually be delivered.

I’ve decided it’s time to start sharing some of what I’ve learned along the way.

My first Substack article is now live:
