Well… it’s been a minute 😅
I haven’t shared much lately, but I’ve been spending that time experimenting and building in the shop.

This piece came from a photo a friend sent me of a painting they saw at the Calgary Zoo. They asked if I could re-imagine it in my stained glass illusion style, so I took that inspiration and rebuilt it using layered, laser-cut wood and stain to give it that stained glass look—without any actual glass.

Projects like this are a great reminder of why I love making art: taking inspiration, problem-solving, and turning an idea into something tangible. Thanks for following along—more projects are on the way.

I’m sorry I haven’t shared any new designs lately! I’ve been busy with a few exciting projects — including setting up a new laser engraver from Opt Lasers to help with future designs.

If you didn’t know, Sienci Labs stopped offering a laser attachment for the LongMill CNC, leaving a big gap for makers who love combining CNC carving and laser engraving. Opt Lasers reached out and sent me their PLH3D-XT-50 to test — and I had to find out if it could be a solid replacement.

Before diving into the full setup, I wanted to answer one simple question: Is it easy enough to install and use that I’d actually recommend it? Is this the best laser for CNC machines?

In this video, I’ll unbox it, do a quick mount, and run my very first test.

I’m putting the final touches on this Maple Leaf stained glass illusion artwork — engraving its name on the back before it heads off to a special event.

This piece is being donated to the Ottawa Police Gala, supporting the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre and Capital Prosperity Foundation— incredible organizations helping youth and families in our community.

🪵✨ Coloring Wood Like Stained Glass
Here’s a little peek at how I add color to my stained glass illusion pieces. I don’t use paint—just dye and/or stain—so the grain still shows through and gives it that glowing, glass-like effect.

This part takes patience, but it’s where the artwork really starts to tell its story.
