Father’s Day is this Sunday and if I’m going to be be honest with you, it’s a day that can bring up a lot of BIG feelings.

This weekend, Rory and I will be celebrating his dad. I’ll also he giving myself a few minutes to think about my grandpa too. He was a complicated guy. I think most old guys of his generation were. We loved each other, we never really said it, and the friendship I was able to form with him as we both got older made sense to, well, exactly nobody else. Sometimes that is the whole truth of a person I guess.

So we’re not going to spend the next couple of days aggressively shouting to you about Father’s Day.

But if there’s someone in your life you’d like to thank, whether that’s a dad, stepdad, grandpa, uncle, chosen family member, extra dad, father figure or well, daddy (hi daddies), we’ve got a few good ideas.

Maybe a Campfire candle. A garden tool he’ll love. Our Vesper cocktail kits are fun. Something that says, “I appreciate you,” without saying, “I bought this at a gas station.”

You’ll find us in the West End shoppe today through Saturday. If you can’t make it in, we’ll cover local delivery on orders over $75.

Whatever this weekend ahead looks like for you, I hope you find a little time to spend with the folks you care about. 💛

Cheers,
Dan

PS. We’re in our West End shoppe from 10-5 today and tomorrow, 10-3 this Saturday.

Hi friend,

If you’ve been by our West End shoppe lately, you may have noticed these beautiful linen Hammam towels appearing and disappearing almost as quickly as we can unpack them. For months, they’ve sold out before Rory and I’ve had the chance to properly introduce them. Now, with a fresh shipment that arrived yesterday, we thought it was time to share their story.

Hand loomed from linen in Central Türkiye by our partner Harun and his family, these towels are crafted using traditional loom techniques that have been passed down through generations. We love that they’re lightweight, absorbent and durable, they’re designed for everyday use and only become better with time.

What makes them special is not just how they’re made, but how easily they fit into our lives.

They move from bath to beach, sauna to cabin. Toss one into a beach bag or tote before heading to the lake. Keep one waiting at the dock for that early morning swim. Wrap one around your shoulders as the evening cools and the fire begins to crackle. Use one as a picnic blanket, kid’s play throw or simply as the towel that always seems to be within reach.

They pack super small, dry super quick and soften with every wash, becoming more even more loved with each season.

From lake days to late night fires, they’re made for the prairie summer rituals that we wait all year for.

Available both in shoppe and online. They’re already going quickly, with more on order. We’re low on the Prussian Blue at the moment, but have more on the way. We’ve also just added a beautiful Forest Green stripe (pics coming soon).

Looking for a cotton Hammam? We have four colours available!

Bring on those beach days!

Cheers,
Dan & Rory

We’ve been on the lookout for a new tea range for the Farmer's Son Co. shoppe, and we knew Birchall Tea was the right fit from the very first cup.

Birchall is a family tea company with roots dating back to 1872, and that long history shows in the quality of what they make. These are award winning teas and infusions built on careful sourcing, proper blending and a real respect for the ingredients themselves.

Birchall's award-winning teas are Fairtrade and are produced in a solar powered tea factory, which only adds to what we already liked about them: they feel beautifully made, considered and rooted in tradition.

We’ve brought in five blends to start, including Peppermint, Lemongrass & Ginger, Camomile, Green Tea and Red Berry & Flower.

Beautifully made, rooted in history and ready for the quiet little moments that call for a proper cup.

Rory and I love a Good Friday hour hour and are forever playing around with new cocktail and mocktail ideas, often using ingredients we’ve brought into the shoppe.

This one started with a jar of Opies stem ginger (a bar cart must if you love ginger) and it’s quickly became a favourite. Fresh lemon, local honey from .son.beekeeping and a little ginger syrup come together in a drink that’s bright, refreshing and easy to enjoy on a Friday evening.

The FSCo. Lemon Ginger Cocktail

2 oz vodka or gin (or zero proof)
¾ oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
½ oz honey syrup
2 tsp Opies stem ginger syrup
1 to 2 slices Opies stem ginger, finely chopped
2 dashes Dillon’s bitters
Soda water to top

Combine the your spirit or zero proof, lemon juice, honey syrup, chopped stem ginger and ginger syrup in a shaker. Add bitters if using, then fill with ice and shake until well chilled. Strain into a glass over fresh ice, top with soda water and garnish with a lemon wheel, fresh mint or a slice of ginger.

To make the honey syrup, stir equal parts of Youngest Son Beekeeping’s raw spun honey and hot water until fully combined, then allow to cool before using.

If you give it a try, let us know what you think!

Cheers,
Dan & Rory

Leone pastilles have arrived at Farmer’s Son Co.

Founded in Piedmont in 1857, has been part of Italian confectionery culture for generations. What began as a small collection of sugar pastilles flavoured with herbs, spices and fruit has become one of Italy’s most beloved confectionery ranges.

It was the beautiful packaging that first caught Rory's and my eyes. The playful colours, the classic typography, the little paper boxes that feel like a little present. They have that rare mix of charm, quality and nostalgia that makes even a small treat feel extra special.

Inside, the pastilles are bright, delicate and refreshing, with flavours that feel distinctly Italian. Simple, well crafted and absolutely delightful.

We’ve started with a small selection for the summer season ahead including, raspberry, lemon, Aperol spritz, mojito and a mixed pack.

Explore our selection of Leone along with all of our other new finds in shoppe and online!

Fence Line started with the places I couldn’t stop looking at as a kid. The ones I’d slow down to really look at as I rode my bike by, or while driving our old John Deere 4020 tractor.

The old farmyards that I grew up with around Roblin, Manitoba. Long abandoned homesteads along the edges of fields. The forgotten barns in the middle of pastures. Weathered buildings, tall grass, fallen roofs. The kind of places that make you wonder who’d lived there before.

I’ve always been a bit of an old soul. I was the kind of kid who wanted my mom to stop the truck when we saw a place I liked. I just wanted a minute to wax nostalgic and just imagine what those places had once looked like. Who had planted the trees. Who was it that’d tended the garden. Who had watched the seasons pass from those window frames.

What I remember most, though, is what kept growing.

Rhubarb near an empty house. Colourful perennials coming up through the grass. Crabapple blossoms on a tree that had outlasted everything around it.

That is where Fence Line comes from. The beauty of what once was and of what remains.

A bright, summery fragrance built around rhubarb, red currant, wild grasses, wild rose, violet and oak moss. Hand blended and small batch crafted in our Winnipeg lab as part of our new collection of soy based reed diffusers.

This past weekend, Rory and I finally got the last of our annual flowers planted.

It’s been such a late start to the season around these parts, so it felt good to be back in the yard, filling beds and pots and making room for tiny snapdragons, salvia, dahlias, calendula and so many others.

And sometimes, all it takes is the right tool to make the work feel that much more enjoyable, which is why we put our own personal collection of FSCo. pieces to work!

A lot of care and time has gone into finding pieces that feel good in your hands, that are durable and that’ll holdup for years with proper care. In this clip I share our most popular pieces from this past month, featuring our multi-weeder, dibber and crack weeder.

Find our Farmer’s Son Co. garden hand tools in our West End Winnipeg shoppe, online as well as at select stockist partners across Canada.
