The power of impeccable visuals.
This 3d render helped our clients move from uncertain to pulling the trigger on new flooring and paint, a new rug in the right size and a tv wall design that speaks to both of them.

They are keeping the most dominant elements in the room _ the large black leather sofa and the Parabolica chair _ so our challenge was to integrate those into something that felt more welcoming and timeless. We’ve suggested a lovely Carlsbad fabric from Holly Hunt that should be repeated in pillows on the sofa.

As for the heirloom green armchair, well, that might be relocated to another room and replaced by a Pétale from Roche Bobois in a preppy green.

Swipe all the way to see what we started with.

This project took us to over the border of our design style but we got there in the end.

If I could have any house today.
I would start by staining the metal door a green so dark that it’s practically black. I would restore this pylons back to their original glory and clean that gorgeous outer façade. I would replace the pendant by a larger one, see about replacing or restoring the marble and tiles, new shutters…

It boasts large gardens with palm and olive trees, and i think I spotted what looked a groomed labyrinth on the side of the house. Green art.

But the layout is my thing: that porch with modern rocking/swivel chairs to watch the rain fall, the symmetry, its scale, the interconnection between rooms that give on to the same social space… this was a common feature in period Argentinian homes, internal gardens/terraces positioned within the floor plan.
And I am a sucker for homes on ONLY one floor.

Call me old-fashioned, but this is it, friends, I found it in La Pampa, of all places.
My second favourite Argentinian house is in Cipolletti, Rio Negro, it has a wraparound porch with large arches and black and white tiles laid diagonally.

Details of a young lady’s custom make up station.
And the beautiful piece for storage and seating at the foot of her bed. We decided to go a darker fabric with light piping, the opposite of what we had seen on the catalogue.

The bed is positioned facing three floor to ceiling windows, this just came to mind because what’s nicer than lying in bed under the comfy linen and watching the winter rain fall?

Have a good one ###

Here’s to dumping a few impressions of our trip to Valencia earlier this month. treated us to a wonderful event combining good times, information, know-how, paella, and the chance to test everyone of their products under the sun.

This is work, people, uuuu yesssss! Would you believe me if I told you these experiences are actually exhausting? Oh they are, in the best way possible, but that’s because we get up early, walk kilometres and kilometres, meet team members, colleagues, we listen and learn, ask questions, take notes and photos, make videos, see production and showrooms, test hundreds of products, and yes, get spoiled with too much great food! By the end of the day we have learnt everything there is to know about our partner brands, and our bottoms have tested more seating options than you can imagine.

These experiences are crucial for my business because they go directly to informing you about quality and comfort and offering you unique solutions for your home.

If you would like to see Expormim in action, come by the showroom, where we will also be delighted to show you pieces we’ve included in our latest projects.

Thank you , thank you Jonatan, for an immaculately planned and executed event.

In appreciation

When the house of one of your best friends could easily be a feature in AD or ELLE Decor and your Uber arrives 8 minutes after she leaves for work.

A maisonette so warm and so packed with meaning that I’m not even going to try to cover a single detail here. It deserves an article or better still, a book! And I will get to one of them, a promise to myself.

I love, love, LOVE visiting my friends and family in Argentina, they could lecture on layering, tradition understood differently, living with meaning, functional interiors, the most imaginative diy & integrated bbqs, of course.

To my beautiful friend of decades, thank you for letting me run wild with my decrepit phone capturing a bit of this splendid home. One day we’ll shoot it properly for Revista Living 🤍

What to do when you have too many windows but not enough storage…

If you live in Switzerland you might be blessed with beautiful floor to ceiling windows. But that blessing can sometimes turn into a little curse. How, you wonder?

1) Well, huge windows bring everything you see outside right in. Into your living room, bedroom, kitchen. You might get lucky and have unlimited lake or mountain views, you might see your own lovely garden. But goodness knows I’ve worked in homes where what you see out of those windows is the neighbour’s messy yard, an orange modern build or train tracks. These unsightly views can create chaos in your interior making you feel out of control. At the end of the day, your decor is so nice, what is it that disturbs you? It’s the outside!

First thing to do is dress your windows. Frame them, if possible. Two drapes instead of one will do the trick. This alone will bring harmony to the space.

2) Floor to ceiling windows _ a lot of them _ deprive us of storage. Well, not really if you’re courageous enough to dress the window and use sturdy open shelves right in front of it! Something like what our open-minded client did right here. She needed extra storage for some office supplies, speakers, games and ambiance lighting.

By placing this gorgeous Arkada Bookcase in a 120 cm width we added interest and created a cosy corner that’s beautiful on the eyes, we used the height of the window for home office storage, we improved on the acoustics of the space and _ had she had unsightly views _ we would have eliminated them.

The secret? Our chosen element does not have side or back panels, so natural light flows right through and does not limit the space.

Thank you, Anna, for being so open to my design suggestions. Without a doubt it’s our most trusting clients the ones who benefit from our most creative ideas and solutions.

Did you know SFL is an official retailer of Bolia? We like to describe to our clients as Scandinavian design of large proportions, lots comfort in minimalist clean pieces. If you want your home to feel like a warm hug and love organic shapes, this is one brand we might suggest in our designs.

Here’s a a Bolia event we attended back in March in Zurich. Swipe to see how some of the pieces we tested then found their way into a couple of our designs _ blooper and all.

Attending partner events and meeting with our vendors is an essential part of my business. This way, we keep up to date with new products in their collections, we test them for comfort so we can confidently recommend them, and get a sense for their proportions.

You don’t need to have a design project with SFL to purchase a Bolia piece from us. As official partners, we can organise samples for you, accompany you on showroom visits and help you decide on the perfect piece to fit your existing decor.

And of course, when we use this vendor in our projects, the key is how we combine their products with other brands to make the design unique, a reflection of our client’s style.

Do you have a Bolia favourite piece?

Here’s to partnerships and design that elevates our quality of life!

a vendor event, this time we were visiting the Bolia Showroom in Zurich, blooper at the end and all.

Events like this are essential to the free rein creativity of my firm because we get acquainted with new products, we can make sense of the collections and test pieces for comfort. We can then confidently introduce these elements in our projects and explain product features to our clients.

Swipe to see a couple of the pieces we saw at the event in some of our recent projects. One of them is still a render, we deliver next month.

If you’re interested in introducing a Bolia piece to your home, get in touch with us! We are official designer partner of the company and have extensive experience using their products. You don’t need to have a project with us, we can help you find your dream piece.

Thanks for the invitation and the beautiful goodie bag.

Wishing you an inspired week!

If I could have any car to drive to today’s shoot it’d be this one.

Nope, the shoot is not in Sydney.
And no, I don’t offer interior photography as a service anymore _ no time for that one anymore _ except when it’s one of our projects or a very special returning client.

Just dreaming about this ride though… and it says so much about my personal design style: black details, clean lines, vintage, mix of materials, generous proportions, history…

Have a great Sunday everyone!

The very first step in this process was to encourage our client to go for this tile she fell in love with.
Once she mustered the confidence to go for it, the rest of the design evolved flawlessly into a melange of cool layers that will make her feel like she’s on a retreat every time she walks into this space.
Without that tile, none of this would have been possible. It was my job to visualise it for her and say: Yep, go for it.

Would you go for a courageous choice like this tile?

Project handover coming up in mid October.
