First one is a bad hair day painting, the second one a good hair day painting. With ‚hair‘ I meant brush hair 😎. Controlled is good, carried away is bad, my version ofcourse.

If only I would be satisfied with the simple watercolour. But no, I had to add a Lasur with yellow, then to cover up the bright yellow, add another colour, and by the time I forced myself to stop, the painting had become someone else, than I thought ‚her‘ to become!

There is a Central Park in the heart of the city Incheon, and my room was facing this park with traditional pagodas, and high rise buildings encircling it like a fortress. I shall revisit this topic again, but here is a first impression with colour pencils and watercolour.

The prayer hall in Santiniketan is known as Upasana Griha or Kanch Mandir (Glass House), a prominent architectural landmark located within the Visva-Bharati University campus in West Bengal, India.

• Builder & Year: Built in 1863 by Maharshi Debendranath Tagore, the father of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
• Design: Constructed using columns, a raised terrace, and walls made of multi-colored Belgian stained glass with elegant marble steps on all four sides.
• Significance: It contains no idols or deities and was originally established as a sanctuary for the Brahmo Samaj to promote universal, silent prayer and meditation. It is also one of the designated structures associated with Santiniketan’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

From the little that I have seen, making the most of the hours when I cannot sleep back in hotel, partially jet lagged in the city of high rise buildings and tucked in between exquisite old pagodas. Watercolour and ink.

My first sketch today morning after a very informative round trip around the city explaining the history, of the gallery windows, which sort of represented the status of the house owner. Some had carved out exotic fruits like pomegranate, some had mythical animals, but what caught my attention was a phoenix shaped like a lion with wings telling people too much money (painted as gold) would never lead to happiness. Camels were also considered exotic. This city got rich because of its intricate embroidery work, and export of high quality linen, and those who got rich with these businesses, built these extended windows to express their financial success.

Last day at Swiss Urbansketchers Symposium sketching the marketplace in a landscape format the city. Swipe to see the still photo and the final exhibition at Waaghaus.
I used Miriam Baechli‘s black fountain pen from the stand, took me about 1.5 hrs. I take this opportunity to congratulate the organisers for giving us this opportunity to meet and sketch together.

This punk building is right across the Hawamahal (wind palace), an iconic building in Jaipur, and yet it’s just an ordinary building. No fancy windows, no paparazzi, no spotlights in the night. Just tattered posters and old signage, electric wires winding around, and street peddlers filling the pavement. Barely anyone clicks her. Barely anyone appreciates her. Sounds like ordinary people, whom we know how extraordinary they can be? If only we would turn our gaze towards them perhaps.
