So proud of this journey! ✨ For my advanced studies course, „Materialising in Existing Buildings“ at HSLU, my talented colleague Jana Bättig and I dove deep into a stunning building from 1893.
Our process was a story in five parts:
1. **Enhancing Our Skills:** It all started with a commitment to continuous learning, putting advanced theory into practice on a real-world case study.
2. **Layers of History:** Then came the detective work, uncovering the building’s past and revealing incredible details like the original hand-painted marble.
3. **Designed with Purpose:** We analyzed the magnificent Kachelofen not just as an object, but as the soul of the space—an anchor designed with a clear purpose.
4. **A Dialogue with the Past:** This understanding led to our materialization concept, creating a true dialogue between historic substance and contemporary living.
5. **Authentic Living, Reimagined:** Our final vision wasn’t about recreating a museum, but reinterpreting the past to create an authentic, lively home for today.
This project was a masterclass in collaboration and has so deeply enriched my approach to working with historic buildings.
