Hi Guys, this is Tinna from Green Art LED. In our previous video, we explained why it's important to choose stainless steel material for LED underwater lights. This time, we'll delve deeper into how to correctly select different types of stainless steel for various situations.

When buying LED underwater lights, you'll often face a choice between two shell materials: Stainless Steel 304 and 316. At first glance, these two may seem similar in appearance, which may leave us feeling confused. However, there are crucial differences in performance, corrosion resistance, and price. So, which one is better?

There's little to no significant differences in appearance between the two.

Performance:
Both Stainless Steel 304 and 316 belong to austenitic stainless steel. However, 316, with the addition of molybdenum and more nickel elements compared to 304, exhibits superior resistance to saltwater corrosion. Generally, 316 is preferred to use in nearshore environments.

Price:
Due to the addition of molybdenum and nickel elements, the cost of Stainless Steel 316 is relatively higher.

So when choosing LED underwater lights, you can weigh these differences based on your actual needs. Undoubtedly, Stainless Steel 316 is a superior material, but if you're on a budget, Stainless Steel 304 is also a good choice. For situations involving saltwater pools or marine operations, it's recommended to go for Stainless Steel 316 as the ideal material .

Why Underwater Lights Use Stainless Steel?

If you've ever looked closely at outdoor lights, you might notice that housing of LED underwater lights are a bit different. Most outdoor lights housing use aluminum, but underwater lights go for stainless steel. Ever wonder why? Today, let's explore the reasons:

Reason 1: Different Densities of the Metal Shell

Think of metals like iron, aluminum, and stainless steel. Iron is heavy at 7.8g/cm³, aluminum is lighter at 2.69g/cm³, and stainless steel sits in between, ranging from 7.75g/cm³ to 7.93g/cm³. Higher density means fewer gaps between molecules, making it harder for other stuff to get in. Aluminum, being light, can let water seep in if it's in water for a long time. On the other hand, stainless steel is three times denser than aluminum, making it great for keeping water out. Iron has a similar density to stainless steel, but it rusts easily. So, stainless steel is the go-to for underwater lights.

Reason 2: Handling Acids, Alkalis, and Oxidation

Underwater LED lights stay submerged and powered for a long time, dealing with acid, alkali, and oxidation. These things can speed up the corrosion of the metal casing, leading to water getting in and messing up the light. Stainless steel is awesome at resisting rust and corrosion, making it perfect for underwater use.

Hello everyone,Today, I would like to introduce a very special floodlight to all of you.
This light is custom-designed based on unique requirements from our client.
The entire housing of this light is made by stainless steel 316, including the face cover, body, heat sink, and bracket.
For the glass component, we have chosen 8mm thick tempered glass, achieving an impact protection level of IK08, ensuring its ro’bustness, durability, and corrosion resistance.
In terms of the light source, we have used 36 pcs of original CREE LEDs, each with an output power of approximately 1.4 watts.
To enhance heat dissipation, we use a 2mm thick aluminum PCB. Then we sealed that with gray thermal silicone gel with a thermal conductivity coefficient of 1.5.
After that, we apply a layer of black waterproof silicon, perfectly sealing the LEDs.
This not only improves waterproof performance but also enhances the overall aesthetics of the fixture.
For the driver, we used Done brand, offering a five-year warranty and having obtained certifications such as TUV, CE, CB, CCC, and SAA, ensuring reliable performance.
Through practical testing, this floodlight has achieved an IP66 waterproof rating, with an impressive light efficiency of 90lm/W, allowing it to operate stably in harsh environments and providing efficient illumination.
This carefully designed floodlight not only meets the specific requirements of our client's project in terms of appearance but also reflects our deep considerations in material, heat dissipation, and waterproof performance to ensure the high quality and reliability of the product.
