How do you design a home that captures the fluid beauty of time in the heart of a bustling metropolis?

For the Fengsong Mansion Puyun Oriental project in Hangzhou, the answer lies in reduction and immersion. Spanning approximately 300 square meters, this panoramic large-flat residence utilizes an integrated living and dining layout to maximize fluid movement and natural light. Instead of heavy ornamentation, the focus shifts to tactile craftsmanship—such as a sculpted coffee table resembling a permanently frozen block of ice, paired with sleek monochrome contrasts and soft, irregular lighting that mimics dreamlike starlight. It is a space crafted not just to be seen, but to be deeply experienced.

Quiet luxury is found in the stillness of the present moment.

Last day in Shoreditch.

Hand, Code, Matter closes tonight at Material Matters, Shoreditch — free, London Design Festival.

Four more of the eight graduates, until the doors shut:
Luke Gifford builds childhood fictions for rural India: a 1:24 dollshouse whose corridor becomes an object of play, and a silk-embroidered tapestry of Keralan tales. (p1-p2)
Ilinca Stanescu turns Rosia Montana's mining heritage into a Courthouse of Heritage — repair as a material and political act, with a Judge's Chamber drawn in Voronet Blue. (p3-p4)
Juntao Liu opens up a vacant Canary Wharf tower — 20 Canada Square — replanned as a vertical village where circulation works as social infrastructure. (p5)
The cabinet, the 1:24 dollshouse, the 3D-printed tower, the silk tapestry — all in the room today. Doors close tonight; come before they do. (p6)
Ioana Enache fills the foundations of Bucharest's unbuilt opera house with a People's Palace: an archive of sets built from people's spoken histories. (p7)

Hand, Code, Matter opens today at Material Matters, Shoreditch — London Design Festival, free entry.

Four of the eight graduates whose research anchors the show:
Amanda Carnovale patches Poggioreale, a Sicilian town abandoned after the 1968 Belice Valley earthquake, with textile-formed repair — a museum, a repair institute, a festival. (P3-P5)
Cristian Francioso designs for dementia: a mirror-image house next door to his grandfather Luigi's, rebuilt with the familiar rooms of earlier decades. (P8)
Kotaro Bean surveys his grandmother's hundred-year-old house, drawing its aging by hand to keep its idiosyncrasies and its slow comfort. (P6-P7)
Benson Pui Lam Chan builds a bamboo sanctuary — a civic centre where displaced neighbours rebuild community together. (P9)

The drawings hang on the walls, a 1:20 fabric-formed model and a cabinet stand in the room — and every image here is a postcard to take home.

After dark, the house belongs to its animals.

Two works by Matrix Design designers.

The Other Residence designs a home for three species from the first sketch. Low passages glow, hidden cavities wake, and the same rooms become a landscape scaled to four paws. At the observatory window, dog, human and cat share one view from three heights.

"The wall is not a boundary — it is a habitat."

Heterotopia: In-Between Spaces runs on a simple formula: one spatial element + one emotion. A staircase with nostalgia. A doorway with desire. The AI translates the feeling into space, and the results land between the familiar and the strange — like a memory of a place that never quite happened.

Join us for ‘Hand, Code, Matter: A New Flow for Spatial Design’ at London Design Festival, Material Matters, Shoreditch, 15–17 September!

'Hand' is human judgement and imagination. 'Code' introduces Lovspark AI, our AI-powered spatial design platform — a tool that extends the designer's imagination. 'Matter' brings the idea back to materials, furnishings and real-world delivery.

Bringing together the work of eight recent architecture graduates, the exhibition shows how hand-making, drawing and artificial intelligence can work together to create spaces that are personal, culturally grounded and emotionally resonant. Each moves through all three — hand-made and 3D-printed models, drawings and AI renders, real and imagined ideas of home. Meet them in our next post.

The four images at the end are explorations by four designers from Matrix Design, made with Lovspark AI.

_The Absent Body (P2-p3) asks what architecture owes a mind that now lives onscreen — using AI to test horizon, light, movement and pause, it builds reasons for us to look up.
_The Other Resident (P4) treats home as a domestic landscape negotiated equally between species — not a human space retrofitted for pets, but a shared one.
_Furlight Wonderland (P5) turns wool into a breathing forest of light; Where Fins Awaken, A Landscape Unfolds (P5) unfolds a sensory journey where Chinese heritage meets contemporary design.

From London to Shenzhen — 9,600 km, one last mile.

Three chapters of one collaboration at GCC Liantai Super Bay: Kelly Hoppen's East-meets-West restraint, MIX's tactile material system, and a Shenzhen Bay residence that finally breathes on its own.

Stepping into a bedroom where the design has already stepped back.

That is the final test of any last-mile ex*****on — when the FF&E system, the material palette, and every lighting calibration have done their work so well that you stop noticing them. You notice the quiet instead. The wood veneer harmonizing with stone. The vertical grain pulling your eye upward before the bay view pulls it outward. The single chair on the balcony, positioned not for the photo but for the moment after the city settles.

Research-driven lifestyle understanding. Co-creation that respects the original design intent. System-based precise delivery through global supply chains. And then this — a home where the homeowner forgets who designed it, because they are too busy living in it.
