✨Living Room Scheme in Progress ✨

Putting together this concept board for a cosy, characterful living room – and I’m loving the earthy greens, rich berry reds, and warm woven textures in the mix. The palette brings a relaxed, nature-inspired charm with a hint of drama 🌿🍷

💡 Design on a budget? No problem.
I’m keeping a close eye on costs for this project, so I’m planning to use mainly off-the-shelf products. That means I don’t always have the exact fabric samples to hand just yet – but that shouldn’t hold you back from building a cohesive scheme!

Instead, I’ve used similar fabrics and textures to help get a real sense of the space – how the colours play together, how materials balance, and the overall mood the room will evoke.

🪵 Think layered comfort: painted walls in muted green, classic florals, relaxed stripes, touches of velvet, and a bit of natural texture underfoot.

Even on a budget, good design is always about ‘intention’ – and a strong product board helps keep that vision clear from the start.

I’ve just started creating a material board for a new project! 🎨✨No new samples ordered yet - just me diving into my sample boxes and rediscovering some ‘good old friends’. It’s amazing how colours and textures from past projects can spark fresh inspiration!

Here are 3 tips for choosing colours and fabrics when starting a moodboard:

1️⃣ Start with a Hero Colour 🎨 – Pick one standout colour that sets the tone for your space. It could be from a favourite fabric, a paint swatch, or even an object that inspires you. This anchor shade will guide the rest of your palette.

2️⃣ Mix Textures for Depth 🧶 – Combine different fabric finishes to create contrast and interest. Think smooth linens with chunky wools, or matte cottons with a touch of velvet. Layering textures makes a space feel more inviting.

3️⃣ Test in Different Lights ☀️💡 – Colours and fabrics can look completely different depending on the lighting. Move your samples around—daylight, evening light, and artificial lighting all impact how they appear in a room.

Bauhaus Inspiration for My Latest Project 🎨🏛️

I recently visited the Bauhaus Museum and couldn’t resist photographing these stunning staircases, each showcasing the block colour aesthetic that defines Bauhaus design. One staircase features a bold orange complimented by a pale purple, while the other is a striking shade of warm yellow—both perfect examples of how Bauhaus used colour to define space and movement. These palettes are now influencing a hallway project I’m working on, bringing a touch of modernist simplicity to a contemporary home.

The Bauhaus Museum in Dessau is a must-visit for anyone passionate about design. Opened in 2019, it celebrates the legacy of the Bauhaus school, which revolutionised art, architecture, and craftsmanship in the early 20th century. Founded by Walter Gropius in 1919, Bauhaus aimed to unify art and function, shaping everything from typography to furniture and even urban planning. Dessau, in particular, is the heart of Bauhaus history, where many of its most famous buildings and ideas came to life.

🏛️ Sundays are for reflection and inspiration, and last week, I found plenty of both at the . More than just a treasure trove of history, it’s an architectural masterpiece. The breathtaking Great Court, designed by Sir Norman Foster, is the largest covered public square in Europe, with its iconic glass and steel roof flooding the space with natural light.

I was lucky enough to capture a unique moment—workmen cleaning the roof, a job that requires precision and patience. What a sight! It’s incredible to think about the craftsmanship, both past and present, that keeps this place so awe-inspiring.
