I baked one of my favourite German cakes today - Marmorkuchen! I love marble cake and it’s always a good excuse to get one of my fancy cake tins down off the wall (I can’t resist a beautiful Bundt/Guglhupf tin, which means I’m running out of wall space! 😆)

I always make my Marmorkuchen extra chocolatey (is that a word?) with real dark chocolate instead of cocoa - trust me, it makes all the difference. Recipe is up on my website if you fancy baking along this weekend.

My Plum and Almond Galette is the ultimate late summer dessert. Made with gloriously sweet and tart plums, buttery pastry, and loads of almonds, it comes together in a flash and is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. It’s nearing the end of Ramadan, which means kids all over Cyprus and Turkey are starting to think about Şeker Bayramı – the ‘Sugar Feast’. It’s the custom on this day for the neighbourhood children to go door to door, wishing everybody a Happy Bayram. In return, they are given small sweets and toys, not unlike Halloween, (though without the ghouls and ghosts).

Naturally, this means the baklava bakeries are doing big business! It’s just as good and a lot of fun to make your own baklava at home - I like my gently flavoured with orange blossom and lemon peel, which gives it a beautiful fragrance. Get the recipe over on my website!
