First of all, happy International Woman’s Day to all

I was born in a religion, who happened to have not only Gods, but Goddesses too

So I’m just going to show a glimpse into the process.

My goddess is slowly receiving her jewelry — stitch by stitch, bead by bead.
She wasn’t finished for International Women’s Day, but maybe that’s the point.

Creation takes time. ✨

Min gudinde er stadig ved at få sine smykker – sting for sting, perle for perle.
Hun blev ikke færdig til Kvindernes Kampdag, men måske er det netop sådan styrke ser ud: noget der bliver til over tid. ✨

I’m delighted to announce that at the very beginning of March, I will be exhibiting my paintings together with a ceramic artist at Kunstforeningen Trehøje.

The vernissage will take place on Thursday, March 5th at 7 PM, and I will be present.
The exhibition will run until March 22nd.

Jeg er meget glad for at kunne annoncere, at jeg i starten af marts udstiller mine malerier sammen med en keramiker hos Kunstforeningen Trehøje.

Ferniseringen finder sted torsdag den 5. marts kl. 19.00, hvor jeg også vil være til stede.
Udstillingen kan opleves frem til den 22. marts.

Its been a lot about Sri Lanka lately, so finishing the year off with something local, but still special from Randers town

Enghøj Kirke ⛪️
Even though it’s hard to believe, it’s actually a church
Yes, those darn Danes did it again with their designs. The locals actually call it ‘Tøjklemmen (clothespeg)’

This church is located in my neighbourhood in Randers and even if the design breaks the norms of traditional church buildings, it is still a magnificent view in the early rays of sunlight - quirky, yes indeed, but also celestial
When you stand next to it, you are not in doubt about what’s inside. It makes you feel it
And that’s the whole purpose of spiritual places for me

Enghøj Kirke is effectively the youngest of the main parish church buildings in Randers when you look at the dates of construction and I’m happy to have it as my neighbour ❤️

Banana Flower (Banana Heart)

The banana plant is one of the most versatile and sustainable plants in Sri Lanka.

Banana leaves are used as biodegradable plates and as natural food wrappers; food can be wrapped in the leaves and even grilled in them. Green bananas, the tender core of the trunk, and the banana flower are all edible and widely cooked.

Fibres from the outer trunk are used to make paper and textiles. And the whole plant? It is traditionally planted on either side of a house during joyful or auspicious occasions.

So here I present one of the humblest, yet most honoured gifts of nature: the banana heart, which has a special place in every Srilankan household ❤️🍌

“The Last Meeting”

Inspired by the famous painting The Meeting on the Turret Stairs by Frederic William Burton from 1864.

Fast-forward to the new millennium. Only the outfits and tools have changed — the war and the reasons behind it haven’t changed much.

The weapons and strategies have, of course, evolved for the worse, leaving only a minuscule chance of survival for those who are less fortunate.

This painting is my tribute to one such group of less fortunate people, who for several decades fought relentlessly against their oppressors and eventually lost the war.

But what about their lifelong struggle, their battles, and their sacrifices? Of course their stories need to be voiced.

The emotional meltdown of saying the very last goodbye, knowing full well that you won’t see each other again.
The inner turmoil of holding back tears when parting ways, because if she cries, the soldier’s resolve might crumble — and that’s not something she wants for her man. She wants to remember him as someone who stood by his values. She needs to keep her head up, to make him feel certain about his decisions.

The feeling of patriotism, love, and responsibility is what I have tried to convey in the painting.

‘where are you from?’
Being a Srilankan Tamil, November is an emotional month where we pay homage to the fallen heroes. And to a man who truly earned his mane as Demi-god and who fought 40 years relentlessly against oppression and for equal rights for the Tamil on the island.

He didn’t win, but those he fought against won’t forget the amount of help they needed from other nations to defeat him and his ideology

Everyone knows Sri Lanka perhaps as a top 10 travel destination in the world, but there is a history to this ‘holiday-paradise’ with it’s beautiful beaches and tasty foods which is worth knowing ❤️

Det var skønt at få delt mine tanker og overvejelser bag hvert maleri, og du stillede alle de rigtige spørgsmål som holdt samtalen ved lige og din iver efter lære det tamilske kultur at kende er kun positivt

Og hvis du alligevel skulle stå og mangle nye malerier til julegaver, ved du hvor du kan træffe mig 😉
