Long before it became one of Ancient Egypt’s most recognizable symbols, it had a name: Sesen.

Sesen is the ancient Egyptian word for the lotus flower. More than a beautiful bloom, it symbolized rebirth, creation, and the rising sun—opening each morning and closing at dusk.

Its elegant form was carved onto temple walls, painted in tombs, and sculpted into the capitals of towering columns, becoming one of the most recognizable motifs in Egyptian art and architecture.
